Come to the land where fairies dance.

All, watch them lightly flit away, Leaving deep in dreamy trance.

A dryad, weary of her play! Till a flaming Rose wakes her from rest

By scattering posies in her hair, And yearning dawns in the Dryad'- breast

To keep this Rose for a playmate fair. Fauns and Dryads, Druids, too,

In search of the fleeing Rose she send-, But all they find, the woodlands through,

Are Autumn and Winter, spirit friend-. Then sunshine brings in troops of Spring,

And from their midst the red Rose darts To dance with the Dryad in fairy ring

And flood with joy the elfin hearts.

the Valley of Humiliation, a lamentable place, wherein we lost our favorite play. We wept, we sighed, we oftimes chid ourselves, but still we passed on towards our distant goal.

Of a sudden, in the early hours of a spring morning, we espied a foul tiend coming over the held to meet us, the Giant Despair, hideous to behold; he was clothed with the glowing scales of a dragon, and out of his mouth belched tire and smoke. The giant made fast at us pilgrims, throwing flaming darts as thick as hail, wrestling with us, and giving us awful falls. All the time in the tight, the giant did make yelling and hideous roaring, while sighs and groans burst from the pilgrims. But at length, with the assistance of one old foe of the giant, who struggled slowly to our aid,1 we felled the dire creature to the ground. Then out of the darkness came Hopeful, another pilgrim and friend, who showed us how to heal our wounds with Yellow Pencils and Jam, and we were comforted and worked gladly to make our escape.

As we were nearing the edge of the Valley, we lifted up our eyes and behold! a trim palace stood before us, the name of which A low, white was Beautiful; and it stood just by the highway side.

OW at this time we were divided among ourselves, and sought out six strange mountains for refuge. In spite of the wild animals and weird figures that dwelt herein, (for here we saw owls, hears, and mysterious twinkling lights ) , we dared brave their depths. In spite of the claims w . . of these places, however, we gathered together at

know Mystery intervals, and in a body, passed into a town where a lusty fair was kept. And the name of this fair was Vanity. Herein we wandered from place to place, coming at last to a most promising by-way, called Quality Street. Here were quaint children to delight us, and a maid most dear to us, even when she was most unladylike.

From this street we wandered on until we came by chance to the Palace of Costly Pleasure1, from which poured sounds of mad revelry, and strains of gleeful music.

We meet with Frivolity

Through all the space no room was there, And many men and little air.

When sometime was agone we entered upon Prating Row, meeting with one Talkative, and another, Loquacious, with whom we discoursed concerning the government of cities. And we liked it wonderful well, for our speech was full of conviction.

Later we came to a place in the fair that was full of rires,

where we met with a certain hand called Diffidence, who gave us

small cheer, and were even heard to remark "This

is utterly without savor".2 And though they ate of our

food and wore of our raiment, they knew not what

they did. So we turned from them sadly, and went

But once again we met with this Diffidence, making

numbers on the greens w ard. Being grieved by their deadly calm,

we took from them a dot5, which made them exceeding sore.

As the road leading from this town came in sight, we chose new leaders4 for the last lap of our journey, and leaving the delights of Vanity Fair behind us, strode forth toward Beulah Land.

Diffidence is all but burnt; but escapes

on our way.

And he- hold, at our right hand, stood a gorgeous palace, in the center of which was a court, w herein could he heard con- tinual babbling of voices; and the bells did so ring, and the noises so constantly sound that we could not sleep.

And though we found in this land of Beulah certain black robes, which must he worn by all those who enter the country, we soon grew accustomed to them. of skill with Diffidence and other ambitious persons. Cheered on by gay red hats and rousing songs, members of our band leaped to the front, and with great glee bore off silver trophies and blue letters of merit.

Step by step we passed on, till at last we were allowed to enter that large hall where once we, and other victims, had exercised with neither grace nor pleasure, but where now bright Gaiety awaited us.

And with us were male companions, carefully chosen, Musk and and bid for the occasion. Nor was this the only

were open to us, and a curious old red building tilled with mandolin music and choral singing.

Finally, like a vision, advancing down a sloping hill, came the Spirit of our College, all blue and gold against the green, to bid us good-bye. And on another day, not far removed, came certain

dignitaries who saluted us and gave to each of us a The end of our roll with a seal upon it, as a sign that we had done journey all our journey. In celebration thereof our band

held one last gay supper; and some few of us were so joyful that they even ran around the banquet table, thereby causing much consternation among the less venturesome. So, in the midst of jollity and good fellow ship, we said our good-byes to one another, and each alone set out to seek new adventures.

|S Springtime cometh to the year, so came the Spirit of Progress, dancing, free, into the life of womankind. Down from the hlue hills of the Ideal she summoned the Vision of the College Beautiful, and those fair three, Love, Loyalty, and Service, that they might help her form Wellesley. And Wellesley, lowly at first, and veiled, her heauties only guessed at thro' the promise of her eyes, sprang into rosy radiance of life when came unto her Faith, clear youth and bright, with all his pure-eyed train of Virtues.

Faith danced beside her; she grew strong, the awakening Wellesley, learned to laugh at stiff Convention, Ignorance, and Prejudice, the mother of the Doubts and Little Fears that sting and hamper growth. Strength, Honor, Wisdom, and the love-joy Play came running down to join her, as she danced with Christian Faith. And Wisdom brought along the Sciences of stars, and flowers, and Chemic Change; History he called, Philosophy and Music, Poetry, Art, and all the rippling tongues of distant lands. Harmony of many parts moving as one, Wellesley began to know.

Rounding to the fullness of the Vision was she, like the great- orbed-swinging moon, when lo! flaming, smoke-veiled, whirled the Fire upon her. Her heart like summer dust, she sank; and Faith stood by with bowed, sad head— they two alone to face disaster. At last, the evil Fire, triumphant, flickered out; and in his place, Grief and Despair crept up.

But Faith, raising his head, caught far away a golden gleam that ran, half dancing, ever nearer, like sunshine on the Lake. Faint arms Wellesley stretched out, moving to meet the gleam, and those twin sorrows, Grief and dim Despair, sprang out all gold and white with promise, generous, to greet— the Coming Era. Strong now to try the future, with her band, Wellesley looked straight ahead. And mirrored in the Vision's steadfast eyes, she saw herself.

T

lHE bare assertion of the manufacturer cannot make reputation for his product, no matter how persistently repeated, or widely advertised, and reputation, there- fore, is necessarily the consensus of opinion of those who have repeatedly used the product and had the opportunity to compare it with similar products of other makers. When the consensus of opinion of many users is that a certain product is the best obtainable, it means that the manufacturer has "made good," and it is said that "they have a great reputation," but is it not a fact that the manufacturer only made a good product and that it was the product that made the reputation? Dill & Collins Co. have for years, patiently and persistently directed their brains, energy and money to the improvement of their product, and their name is now synonymous with the best in printing papers, both with and without a coated surface, simply because printers, publishers and adver- tisers have learned by actual experience that with them they obtain the most satisfactory results. Dill & Collins Co.'s papers are sold at a fair manufacturing margin of profit, it can therefore safely be inferred that any competing product offered as "just as good" is either misrepresented or that the seller is a philanthropist who disposes of gold dollars at ninety cents.
