Forum: GratefulDead Subject: YOU SHOULD BE ON THIS LIKE STINK ON SHIT!

Cliff just started poking around the 1972 shows ('72 not being one of Cliffs favorite vintages), and came across this criminally overlooked, phenomenal version of Dark Star! This is special folks, a discovery Cliff ranks up there with the 1970 Dog shows that recently blew us all away. THIS DARKSTAR IS A MASTERPEICE! IT MIGHT BE AS GREAT AS 11/11/73! The PLAYIN' IS SICK TOO! While this version does not quite reach the incredible peaks of 8/27/72, the resemblance to that version is striking! Cliff believes this unheralded masterpiece slipped through cracks because it is sandwiched between several historic shows (8/27, 9/19 & 9/27 among others), and because a complete soundboard of the entire show may not exist? Like 8/27, this version is lysergicaly infused. Typical of 1972, this is slower paced, but carries nice momentum from start to its radical conclusion. 26 minutes of pure bliss! The band is super-tight, Garcia leading this odyssey with the band right on his heels. The various inter-play is astonishing, Jerry & Keith, Jerry & Bobby, Bob & Phil, Bill and Jer, all tossing around mind-bending themes. At around the 19 minutes, Jerry starts a Jam, that is just about as good as any post-Dark Star Jam you have ever heard! And the Playing in the band is phenomenal as well. This is an incredibly intense, cerebral version of Dark Star that should not be missed! 9/16/72 Boston Music Hall Bertha, Me & My Uncle, Deal, Black Throated Wind, You Win Again, Big River, Bird Song, Mexicali Blues, Stella Blue, Jack Straw, Big Railroad Blues, Playin' In The Band Morning Dew, Greatest Story Ever Told, He's Gone, El Paso, Don't Ease Me In, Dark Star-> Brokedown Palace, Promised Land, Ramble On Rose, Not Fade Away-> Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad-> Not Fade Away, E: One More Saturday Night Forgive the AUD/soundboard mix, but the Playing & second set are fairly crisp soundboard ecstasy (for some reason, the rest of the show does not reach the intensity of Dark Star & Playin'). Be the first to review it here! http://www.archive.org/details/gd72-09-16.sbd.cotsman.9247.sbeok.shnf The incomplete board has everything you need though. Does a complete soundboard of this show exist? http://www.archive.org/details/gd72-09-16.psbd.unknown.6683.sbeok.shnf Audience version for folks who prefer... http://www.archive.org/details/gd72-09-16.degen.weiner.12932.sbeok.shnf

That is correct about 9-16-72. I just got the great sick bits from etree. It sounds sooooo good. The dark star is magical. The rest is hot as well. A must have, along with 10-28-72 dark star, very underrated.

Freezing!

But my crazy Golden Retriever Mason waded through the ice to go swimming this afternoon.

Did you check out Truckin>Eyes>Slipknot>China Doll from 6/20/74?

Silly retrievers! Had a yellow lab in Park City many years ago... Favorite game was fetch stick on thin ice! Saving that for a little later. Catching up on some of my promo's right now... The new Keller Williams "Dream" is pretty nice. Got Kenny wayne Shepherd on deck...
