Born and raised in a town in central Scotland that was a good place to leave (not one of the scenic parts) - moved to London (England) and lived in and around there for a good few years - been living in a village in Surrey in the south of England for the last eight years.

Longtime resident of America's heartland in Centralia, Illinois, about 65 miles due east of St. Louis, which is where I saw a passel of Dead shows. Native of the San Bernardino, California, area. Also lived in Gresham outside Portland, Oregon; the San Francisco east bay suburb of Pleasanton; Carbondale, IL; Athens and Cleveland in Ohio; Chicago; the East Village in Manhattan as well as Brooklyn.

I went to grad school at OU. Yeah, Athens is a wonderful place. Not that far from from Buckeye Lake, where I saw a couple of very cool Dead shows in the '90's.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

Born in Nashua, New Hampshire... but grew up for the better part of 18 years + a couple more summers in Bergen County, New Jersey (22 miles west of midtown Manhattan.)

After high school, went to ski and attend some college at the U. of Utah in Salt Lake City. Spent some time living in (not all in order:) Paducah (western KY), Key West (FL), on Union Square West (in NYC), Coral Springs (near Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Daytona Beach (FL), San Francisco, Missoula (western MT), Long Beach Island (NJ), Park City (UT), Putnam County (about an hour north of NYC), Summerville (near Charleston, SC), Fox Lake (about an hour northwest of Chicago) . . . but it looks like I've finally settled in Fairbanks in central Alaska.

Some people live their whole life in the same town. For me, yeah, it's been one of those long, strange trips (Hmm... I've think I've heard that saying somewhere!)

BryanE --
It's been about 10 yrs since i lived in Paducah and i wasn't there long. It seemed like a sleepy river town. Nice little old downtown area. At the time, suburban sprawl seemed almost non-existent compared to many other suburban areas in the U.S.. (No idea what it's been like since.) I wouldn't be surprised if Starbucks has yet to establish a presence there which is definitely a bonus in my opinion.

Wish i could fill you in more but like I said, tis been awhile.

Actually we make it down that way maybe a couple of times a year. It's about a two-hour drive. The riverfront area is trendy, but really pretty nice, and the fast food and motel franchises near the interstate keep multiplying like rats. I was just inquiring with a former resident-you, that is-to find out your general take on the town. And no, I don't think I saw a Starbuck's, but with all the other stuff there, I doubt that it can be far off.

Trendy riverfront? That's interesting but not surprising. Downtown near the river, when I was there, was more sleepy than trendy, more old than bright and new. They built a shiny new Performing Arts Center, i believe, a few yrs ago . . . so like almost everywhere else in America, it's growing. Probably one of those small cities that people will tell you 20 years ago it was just a fraction of what it's grown into today.
