When it comes to mp3s, can I opt to just have high res mp3s, or if I agree to mp3s, do I agree to the whole sha-bang? And... I'm sure I can research this, but what are the advantages of ogg files?

Thanks,
Brian

You can manually specify which formats not to make by creating a rules file. This ability is not currently documented, but if you create a file called IDENTIFER_rules.conf, where IDENTIFIER is the name of the directory you have uploaded, and in that file specify one format per line, none of the formats you list will be made. The list of known formats is:

WAVE, 64Kbps MP3, 128Kbps MP3, 256Kbps MP3, VBR MP3, 96Kbps MP3, 160Kbps MP3, 192Kbps MP3, Ogg Vorbis, Shorten, Flac, 24bit Flac, 64Kbps M3U, VBR M3U, 64Kbps MP3 ZIP, VBR ZIP, Shorten ZIP, Flac ZIP, Checksums, MPEG2, MPEG1, 64Kb MPEG4, 256Kb MPEG4, MPEG4, 56Kb QuickTime, 64Kb QuickTime, 256Kb QuickTime, QuickTime, DivX, IV50, Windows Media, Cinepack, Animated GIF, Thumbnail, JPEG, Single Page Original TIFF, Single Page Processed TIFF, Multi Page Original TIFF, Multi Page Processed TIFF, DjVu, Text, Single Book Page Text, TGZiped Text Files, Book Cover, DAT, ARC, Metadata, Files Metadata, Item Metadata, Book Metadata

Okay, I see what you're saying, but I am not sure about the actual creation of the file. Do I do that somewhere in file options? A point in the right direction is needed.

Thank you very much for helping me!

Nah, you'd have to create it using a text editor on your computer, then upload the file into the directory with the files.

So I could open up a notepad document and type the following:

64Kbps MP3
128Kbps MP3
VBR MP3
96Kbps MP3
160Kbps MP3
192Kbps MP3
Ogg Vorbis

then name that file "IDENTIFER_rules.conf" then put it in a directory labelled "Identifier"... I should be good?

AND...

lets say, hypothetically... the show has already been uploaded. Still good, or no?

Thanks... and, if this is easier to do via e-mail, my e-mail is evolvefurther41@yahoo.com

That should do it. But only for new shows. You are unable to add files to an existing show.

Brian,

No problem, that is what I'm here for. Please let me know if you have any trouble getting this to work for you (for instance, if it still makes the low-bitrate ones, don't hesitate to contact me to have them removed). Also, please do let me know if it does work :)

Can I feel free to contact you to remove the Ogg files and the 64 bitrate mp3s from two shows that are already up? Or did I read into that last post incorrectly?

I'll be happy to do that. Here is what you should do. Create the two rules.conf files (named properly based on the directory names). Then email them to me at jon at archive dot org. I'll take care of placing them in the right directories, and then the deriver will clean up those files. Cool?
