Insect Fear Interlude/Grisly Outer Space Noises |
In the book "Living With the Dead", Rock Scully talks about Phil & Ned Lagin doing a section during the break between sets (p.283). This was before the Drumz>Space became a ritual. In the book he calls it the "Insect Fear Interlude" and "Assault of the Grisly Outer Space Noises" I am curious if anyone knows of this recorded or in any shows. Apparenly it was electronic music that pretty much scared people to death and was eventually replaced by the DRUMZ>SPACE jam....?????thanks!

This was Seastones/Phil & Ned. It was performed at pretty much every show between June '74 and October '74.

Hey Thanks for the info...I figured it must have been about that time span, but have never heard of Seastones....do you know if any of the shows here in the archive have that interlude...I have a show from '74 but it doesn't contain anything like what I am talking about...??
Peace

I think it's ( understandably so ) left off a lot of copies that get passed around. Or at least it used to.
You won't find the Oct. 74 run here but the one from 10-19-74 is probably the only one I can stomach listening to in it's entirety.
Also - they released a studio ( I think studio ) version. I think Ryko later distributed it.

Only deadheads would rate this four of five. Think I'll go home and put this one and follow it up with Lou Reeds Metal Machine music.

I don't remember that one as being as " out there." Was it? That's the one that had Sample and Hold? Which one had Transformer Man? Love that tune but must admit I love the unplugged version better.
This all reminds me of a quote I heard was from Alvin Lee. You have to picture a think English/Cockney accent
" Avant-Garde means Avant Garde a clue."

that's pretty damn funny
yea, transformer man. great tour. you've probably heard the story about how the ablum was in some ways neil's efforts to communicate with his son. best part of it was that geffen sued neil for being uncommercial. neil said it was a hell of a lot better honor than winning a grammy. i loved the reworked version of mr. soul.

No actually I didn't hear that one. Communicate how? Generationally or something to do with his condition?I had forgotten about him being sued. I remember hearing that one, along with the shocking pinks record. That IS an honor. This is right up there with Fogerty being sued by fantasy for sounding too much like a CCR tune ( of which he wrote every single one that wasn't a cover ).

Re: Insect Fear Interlude/Grisly Outer Space Noises |
via use of the vocoder - why a bunch of songs on album utilize same.
another cool neil nugget is that he and ben (his son and why there is a bridge school and benefit -this year with tom waits performing w/ kronos quarter, eddie vedder w/ flea and jack irons) bonded by messing around with toy trains. so neil now owns either a large chunk or controlling interest in lionel trains.
he's also a longtime season ticket holder to the san jose sharks.
