The first time I heard this recording I thought the heads found a work-around to the soundboard downloads. Call it an audience recording!
I'm guessing NAK 300 shotguns directly in front of the stacks, however I have never been there so it's hard to know.

I recorded a concert at Deer Creek where the taper section was right smack dab in front of the monitors that played out over the lawn area. Pulling a number out of the air, I'd say 50 feet away. The source was so loud and clear that the recordings came out great. I wasn't using shotguns, but those who had them were pointing them directly into the speakers instead of at the bands primary monitors. I am guessing those recordings would sound like this one.

do NOT be fooled by the "ordinary" looking set list. Each song played to perfection. i.e. LIG>DEAL
and...

Huge show. Just listen to the Birdsong, then decide. You won't be disappointed.

these will hold you in good stead until you can come across some fantastic audience recordings that are not available here at LMA; why audience sourced shows are no longer allowed to be uploaded here to the archive, i don't know, but many quite good listens definitely available

i do not mean this in a disingenous way at all... do you think 81 is the last great year?.....mind you i have been concentrating heavily on getting 68 - 72 striaght and really not listening to much else for the last 4-6 months....
i would say other than 77, most people on this site seem to mostly be into 80-83.....that has never been an era i found very interesting outside of the acoustic sets...maybe due to early exposure to DEAD SET/DEAD AHEAD ....
i am saving your recs for future ref, thanks.
BTW, the 7-10-81 eyes of the world has a VERY COOL JERRY SEGUE, i really like how he introduces the tune, SLIPPERY LIKE....but the TEMPO is just out of control, like he starts playing the riff and then everyone plays eyes AROUND IT...all the sudden they;'re goin MACH 10!

the last great year? definitely everyone has their subjective opinion regarding this question, but for me it would have to be '82, which isn't to say that there aren't fantastic shows post-'82, because there are for sure, but i guess i haven't yet explored so much of that territory to make an informed opinion one way or the other; for one thing, the setlists don't quite do it for me as much, and truth be told, my years of choice would run as follows: 68 > 69 > early '70 > 72 > 73 > 79 > 81/82
