Looks like it IS a global problem as two of my most recent files are generating the same error and entering text in the search box generates a different error that suggests there may be a server issue or similar.
It will be fixed, I'm sure - the guys at Archive.org don't tend to leave things hanging!

I've told the ops (sysadmins) about this problem - looks like an entire cluster of machines is down. I hope they can get to it before Monday - it's the Thanksgiving holiday here.

we are working to rebuild our Search Engine
which has had known problems for the last 2-3 weeks
which should resolve most of our stability issues.

(we've had 2-3 weeks of nonstop drama and upgrades and fixes to *major* servers and services so we had to let the SE cope as best it could until we could get to it today...)
