This is just one of many prelinger films that could be revised. These are really archival films and while they may provide some amusement for the casual viewer, they are traps for the ignorant. Reviewers comments may provide some guidance but the information needs to be of high quality...

...here we go again!

The archive films ARE what they ARE, and they are NOT what they are NOT. If you think the world needs a new film edited out of an old one, go right ahead. That's why there are editable versions available!

If you want better media, go make it. And no whining about how it would have to be someone with more talent than you. I taught myself iMovie in about 10 minutes. You can do it, and you should. But if you don't -- and I'm trying to say this respectfully -- please don't complain about the films as they stand. The rule in my house is, if you complain that "someone" ought to do something, "someone" automatically becomes YOU.

Feel free to email me (ridetheory at gmail dot com) if you feel like thrashing this out. I don't care to subject the others who use this forum to another of my rants.

Forum: movie_of_the_week Subject: info not available from internet. GO TO THE LIBRARY

Lets have opinions and MORE OPINIONS..the more the merrier. Before this film can be revised, research at a suitable library is needed. I do not have access, so can do nothing and my post was intended as a note of ENCOURAGEMENT to any eligible enthusiast. This case is similar to the Ivan Besse films. I would like to do something BUT without access to the LIBRARY resources (newspapers, books, magazines, diaries, photographs, etc)my efforts are futile. It would also be valuable to visit the actual locales of the films and talk to residents with first hand accounts to relate.. Please have POSITIVE contributions only

How about this for a positive suggestion: take the steps necessary to make the film you want to see. Do it yourself, and let nobody stop you. Others have done the same, so can you. (I use the Interlibrary Loan system to get materials not available within the local library. Also, our library has access to various databases, like the New York Times Historical, which dates back to the 1850s, and that is accessable from home with my library card. I don't know if these or similar services are available in your local system in Australia, but it's worth asking a reference librarian.)
