wow, i can't stop thinking about that dark star. i listened to it last night, and needless to say, i was moved to tears. you know in the back of your mind, that, yeah, that's a good dark star,i should listen to it sometime. then, you listen to it, and your like, why don't i listen to this more often? i'd forgotten just how amazing it is. shame on me. it may be the best ever, or definitely top 3. all i can say, you do not have permission to die until you've heard it. the good ole grateful dead in all it's glory.

I'm sure everyone knows this already but for the benefit of new members this Dark Star can be found on Dicks Picks Vol Four.

Yep, though I am always rambling on about 68 for The Eleven and StSt, 70 is my favorite year for DS. Love this one, and the 9-19-70 one as well. I know, I know, 72 and 73 are the BIG yrs for most of you all, but I really like the way the song changed from 68 (I would not pick ANY from that year, really) thru 69, and then peaked for me in 70 (though I really thought TC added a lot to those in 69, they somehow retained that approach in 70, and then I can appreciate what Keith brought in 72 & 73).

Man, I need to get a copy of this one. I've looked but it never seems to be up. Had parts of it on a beat-to-shit, normal bias cassette back in the day. I can still picture the label: "2-13-70." Oh, you'd shit if you saw it, though. I almost ordered DP 4 over the holidays, but decided I'd rather have the show proper. Besides, I'm boycotting Bobby, for the beard.

I'm burning some CD's for my cousin, she's an outstanding cellist, attending university on a full scholarship. Hasn't listened to much besides classical, though. I'm giving her the 4-8-72 Dark Star, a celestial introduction, I think.

Good move, Arb; was hoping you step in here. I afterall would just be a messenger in the chain, so best he gets it straight from the source.

As for whistles, not sure...how about Kazoo? That fits my 68 mindset a bit better.
