Listening to this today since I have never given it shot figuring that it could not come close to either of the next two nights (2-24-74 maybe my favorite show). So I get to the PITB at the end of the first set (of 3) and during the jam there is a clear Slipknot! tease which is followed a few minutes later by a full out Slipknot! that is similar to the one at the end of the Eyes of the World from 6-20-74. I was always under the impression that the Atlanta one was considered the first Slip. Why not this? Check it out. So far an excellent show although the sound quality is not the best for a board.

This is the first show of '74, does anyone know of any slips or teases in '73 or earlier?

Forum: GratefulDead Subject: SLIPKNOT! AGAIN -- the saga continues

you peaked my interest.... i have never heard this show before.... AND YES -- YOU ARE ON THE MONEY HONEY! i just now heard what you called the "tease" -- which i wouldn't because it was THE SLIPKLNOT! RIFF NOTE FOR NOTE.... but they don't play a full jam. jerry play's the riff but the do not change key and play on that mean sounding minor chord they go to after the riff in slipknot. this riff is like the intro riff that is EQAUL PARTS [...] "Help On The Way" and [...] "Slipknot!" it is really interesting to hear this popping up in playin in the band. similar to how they tinkered with PLAYIN IN THE BAND itself, showing up first as THE MAIN TEN JAM, during which time they actually seemed interested in exploring the theme, unlike the 1971 Playin's -- when it was relegated to being just a 5 minute song... this is sort of like HEARING JERRY throw in some riff he was working on in the middle of a LIVE JAM... and Help>Slip is a bit nebulous anyway, to me this riff is a little more Help.... but either way. this playin' is just GOOD DEEP GOO GOO, "help on the way" riff or not: [...]

But this time its in the TOO jam about 14 minutes in and just after the spacey middle. To me this TOO sounds more like a Dark Star from 74 as it wonders off in to strange places.

Lots of great stuff in this one too. Eyes is very nice and the WRS>LIG is AWESOME!! (and it goes into a sweet stella too!). Here Comes Sunshine is also yummy. Hell the whole show smokes.

In my opinion the sound is better than the show the night before.

After teleporting to the Dream Bowl last night, I took this one for a spin and just had to say thanks elbow and He Lives for bringing this exceptional show to my attention. There's something about the sound quality, which seems to suit my aural receptor / auditory cortex interface, which I can only describe as raw splendour. A transporter of the fourth kind.

I can't say I've noticed the slipknot tease in any 73 shows elbow but I'll keep an ear out.
