hi there,

ok, so we do a global refresh every week.
we had search engine problems all last week so it prolly took us two weeks to get the counts updated everywhere.

this week, we temporarily paused the download counting (for resource reasons) but expect to have it working again soon, within a few work days.

rest assured, we have not lost the download data and all the counts will get updated appropriately!

Counters are still not working for our files we uploaded since about April or June.

If you look at our podcast episodes in the search URL below, you'll see that there are no download counts for all episodes since episode #32. WHY?

http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=%22PMlessonsLearned.com%22&sort=-publicdate

Can you fix this?

i just looked at your top item,
HenryWill_PMPPMLessonsLearned_0039Teachingolddogstodonewtricks_AprimeronChange_
and it has a count of 16
and recent daily counts for the last 10 days.
seems working to me.
what makes you think this item or others -- feel free to point to a few specific ones if you like -- are not working?

I think I know what you're saying now. I need to click on each individual link within that search URL
http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=%22PMlessonsLearned.com%22&sort=-publicdate

What I'm saying is that without clicking on any links, if you look at the search results, you'll see the download count for the following entry (within the search results on the URL above, the download count is listed):
PM Lessons Learned #0031"Project Management is a Dead-End Job. Is There Life After Project Management? -

BUT, for any podcast newer than Episode #31, the download count is not listed in the search results and you need to click the link for each one to pull up the page to see the count on that individual page on the bottom right.

Why can't the download search show on the search results like it does on all the other ones?

ah! i see what your concern (rightly so) is -- the SE results don't seem to match up for some of the newer items in SE results.

OK, i figured out where the problem was. if the SE had an item indexed *and* it had a 0 download count, it may stay 0 during the weekly updates if the item didn't change in the meantime.

So your report helped me find about 120K such items -- I am getting them all updated in our SE now. it will likely take about 2-3 hours for the SE results and collection pages to start showing the results. Meanwhile, i've fixed the process for going forward.

Thanks for the report!

Hi!

So, my netlabel has only been up for ~3 weeks, although there's been some modest downloading of the various collections (when i go to a collection page, i can see the # of DLs), but that's not reflected in the front page download counts (most are sadly listed as 0)
http://www.archive.org/details/believe-in-billy-records
I see that as of May, the global refresh for DL count was every 1-3 weeks...is this still the case? Maybe the last refresh was right after i joined?

Thanks,
mhc

well, we're trying to upload the collection-level page
counts about once or twice a month now...

hopefully your collection page has been reflecting that?

I don't know where that ; came into the URL, but look at this one:

http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=%22PMlessonsLearned.com%22&sort=-publicdate

The following items do not have any counts:

PM Lessons Learned #0039 Teaching old dogs to do new tricks? A primer on Change" PM Lessons Learned Best Practices group confcall from 26Jun2008

PM Lessons Learned #0038 Project Management of Virtual Teams

PM Lessons Learned #0037 How to Get the Most From Your Recruiter (PM Job Shop)

PM Lessons Learned #0036 PMP Exam Study Group: Quick Reference part 1

PM Lessons Learned #0035 "Don't Go It Alone...Lessons Learned From PM Community Building"

PM Lessons Learned #0034 Scope Management (PMP Exam Study Group)

PM Lessons Learned #0033 Project Management Humor

PM Lessons Learned #0032 PMP Exam Study Group Open Discussion

Unless I'm missing something or if there is some other place to look for it.

Not sure if it's related but this item bounces in and out of the top download lists on the collection page:

http://www.archive.org/details/voyager_ep_612

It has more downloads than most stuff on the collection but isn't listed in the top lists for some reason...

Also, I uploaded some software recently, went to ourmedia collection? Is there any way to move that and point me to some advice on how to get the next batch to the right collection at upload?

I have emailed, error reported and posted in software forum to no avail, thanks.

so item count sections on collection pages are split into
"most downloaded":
"... last week"
"... last month"
"... over all time"

we update those rankings/sortings every 1-3 weeks now so it may appear that the order bounces around "suddenly".

http://www.archive.org/details/magicalmusicalthing
is a .dll mainly, so it won't really "pick" well as to where to go
so goes into our ourmedia collection.

i can move it to "software"?

i don't understand what your next items will be --
so long as you are uploading mp3s and music-related files
they'll all continue going into opensource_audio
or a more specific audio collection you (presumably) are picking.

(great collection page animation, btw! 8-)

if you are going to upload more .dlls
and have "privs" to move mp3 files to the noise collector
collection, just "override" it to put the item into that collection
after it auto picks ourmedia and i *think* that should work..

Thanks for moving the VST to software, I will be uploading more DLL files as I make them as well. I usually select the collection at upload and the collection in my item edit screen afterwards is hardcoded so I cannot change an item afterwards.

As for the downloads, I understand the time frames but the voyager ep was on the list last week and has been on here for 8 months so it should stay on the most downloaded list at least. Almost like it is not in the collection according to the counter-counter, ya know?

Thanks for your help and kind words!

ok, VST is now in open_source_software.

and i *do* see what you mean -- at least i can see that voyager_ep_612
has 5035 downloads (as of today) but was not in your "top 10 downloads" (of all time) collection.

we had a bug where for new items (total download count of 0), they could not update in our SE during our weekly updates. (fixed last week).

as such, not surprisingly voyager_ep_612 is slated to update in today's (this week's) SE bulk update and that will go live by EOD.

however, it's a mystery if you *ever* saw it in the "top 10 most downloaded" items on the collection page!! (it should have been the case that it would have never shown up there unless it was at the bottom of the list with "0 downloads"...
