Seems as if the DL speeds have slowed down considerably. Any reason for this?

Hey, So since we added the European mirror, neither of our two mirrors have their bandwidth maxed out any more. It's possible that you get faster speeds from the U.S. mirror than the European, or vice versa - try logging on to audioXX.archive.org via http or ftp and see if that's any faster for you than clicking through from the details page (those links go to the European machines), if you see what i mean. Hope this helps! Thanks, s!

I mean we're talking 500 kb/sec to 30 kb/sec. Thats a huge difference in just one day. The past few weeks it would take me about a minute to dl one song, now its like 20 minutes. Should there be that a drastic slowdown??

Ah, [EDIT: updated with more precise explanation.] So some of the traffic formerly going to the new Europe mirror is now going to the U.S. data center, and you were probably getting swifter speeds from the European mirror. We're still trying to balance this properly so that everybody (hosts, users!) are as happy as they can possibly be, so bear with us. Thanks again, Simon. [Archive admin.]

I don't understand. I'm getting about 30kB/s through http and through ftp right now. A week ago, I was topping out at 1.16MB/s (phenomonal!). Is the US data center different from the US mirror?

How does this explanation vibe with slow http and ftp? How does this observation work with neither bandwidth being maxed?

To explain a little further, all the downloads on the Etree details pages were switched to point to the European mirror a few weeks back, after the mirror opened. This was the location you were getting the super-fast speeds from. However, we've had to switch back most of the links to the original U.S. data center (there's only one of these!), at least for right now. Sorry there's such a big difference in download speed, but we hope to balance everything out so that everybody gets a reasonable speed, uhh, everywhere, no matter which of the Archive's 2 locations it's being served from. Thanks, Simon. [Archive admin.]

Thanks Simon, I appreciate it. Not meaning to be a complainer, I just got real used to the quick speeds. Thanks again for everything!!

I'm glad someone raised this matter - I was really amazed to see it taking 8-10 hours to download a concert, and was ready to lay into my quasi-monopoly service provider. Eight-10 hours is a long time for my PC not to screw up in some way. I'm getting 30KB too :-(
