Ive never heard this Robert Hunter song before, but its sweet as hell in my opinion. I wouldve loved to hear the Dead do this...I havent listened to the whole thing yet, but one thing that really grabs my attention is the fact that there are 2 guitarists on here, one definitely sounds like Bobby, but the other doesnt sound like Jerry. On track 4 it sounds like Bobby is dictating the chord structure to Mickey

the song:

It says in the second link that Hunter has played this tune a few times including with Mickey in '86. Does anyone have access to any versions? I would love to hear it.

Hey, nice post. I'm happy to hear this tune I've never heard before.
However, you posted that you think Bob's talking to Mickey. He's not. He's talking to Jerry.

Thanks.

here listen to this interview for reference

it wouldnt make sense for it to be jerry, he never performed the song and didnt compose the music

who knows. but according to the ranch rock 86 set list I came across:

* * * * Robert Hunter and the Mystery Band

* * * * Robert Hunter - guitar, vocals
* * * * Barry Melton - guitar, vocals
* * * * Steve Kimock - guitar
* * * * David Frieberg - keyboards, vocals
* * * * Bobby Vega -bass
* * * * Mickey Hart -drums
* * * * *John Cipollina - guitar

* * * * Wavy Gravy Intro* * * *
1* * * * One Thing To Try 6:35
2* * * * Rock Columbia 5:22
3* * * * Molly Dee 5:51
4* * * * Tiger Rose 3:41
5* * * * Aim at the Heart 5:56
6* * * * Chingo! 5:01
7* * * * --Crowd/Tuning-- 2:10
8* * * * *Fire on the Mountain 9:59
9* * * * *Promontory Rider 6:44

maybe mickey composed most of the rhythm sections and had a melody in his head and he had bobby help him play it out
