the best stand alone Fires are: 11-24-1978, 07-13-1985 and 05-27-1993
my personal favorites are 10-10-1980 and 05-27-1993...you can't go wrong with 03-22-1990 as it is on the So Many Roads box set...10-02-1977 features some sick wah licks in Fire...best segues into the Fire intro are 05-08, 10-10, 03-31-88 and 03-22-1990, perfect...
11-01-1979, 11-30-1980 and 10-14-1980 are often noted, but these versions are rambling and disjointed with some moments...

You just described the Forum perfectly.
As for me, however, I have a different opinion on the 11/1/79, but that's just me. To each his own.

Jerry Garcia, Mickey Hart, Carlos Santana, Bobby Vega, Hamza El Din, with Baba Olatunji and his Drums of Passion. Just frickin out there. The African rhythyms laid over Fire just blow me away.

As completely awesome a performance as you're ever likely to see.

pretty decent AUD - but per notes: "- I did not record the drums at this concert... D'OH!"

Everyone knows that it's true, but we never want to run out of possibilities. There is a finite number of versions. In my humble opinion, it's okay that there is an absolute best. It's a good thing.

The show is underrated because no board has ever surfaced after all these years.
