Upload instructions for netlabels.
|
|
Hey all,
I'm posting these here as reference for people wanting to upload their netlabel releases to this collection.
Please do the first half of this list, and then contact me (at simon at archive dot org) with the email address of the account you signed up with, and the name of your label, and I can do the rest of the setting up. Please note a label is meant to have multiple releases by multiple artists.
Thanks,
s!

1. Go onto www.archive.org <http://www.archive.org> and make a
'library card' account.
2. FTP on to audio-uploads.archive.org with name = email address,
password = library card pass
3. Make one directory for each release with the directory name
being the release number (like nishi001 or however you do it!)
4. Upload each release into each directory. If you want a cover to
appear on the page AND a large version people will get in the ZIP,
then make a thumbnail (160*160 or similar) called nishi001.jpg in
the nishi001 directory - that will appear on the page itself. Then
make nishi001large.jpg and also put it in the directory.
So in the end, you should have:
/nishi001/
/nishi001/firstmp3.mp3
/nishi001/secondmp3.mp3
/nishi001/nishi001.jpg
/nishi001/nishi001large.jpg
1. Go to: http://www.archive.org/audio/audio-contribute.php - and hit
'Begin'
2. If there are any folders which it's having trouble with, log on to
the ftp and get rid of any weird/illegal characters like ^, [, ], spaces, and so
on!
3. Hit the 'Import Recording' button for the first release (repeat this step for all the other releases.)
4. You'll get to a large page where you fill in details about the
release - hit the 'I have rights to upload this release', as long as you
do! Oh, and make sure you're putting it in your own collection.
5. Fill in the TITLE box with ARTISTNAME - EPNAME [RELEASENUMBER] - not
just the title of the EP. For example, for the latest Monotonik release,
I filled it in with 'Vim! - Remixconsonantthing EP [mtk120]' - please
try to do this, it's the #1 thing people forget to do, heh.
6. In the description, fill in info about the song/EP.
7. Add a Creative Commons license if you want - if you want a license to spread but not remix, then try adding
Attribution-NoDerivs-NonCommercial, which is answering NO, NO to the 2 questions. Change NoDerivs if you want people to be able to remix freely.
8. Add at least one category by scrolling around in the little box.
Click 'More' to add a second category. Categories are your friend :P
9. Then just click on the 'Create' (?) button when you're finished, and
the release will go for curator approval.
10. You can fill in other categories like Date, Artist, Length, if you
want, but no big deal either way.
11. IMPORTANT NOTE - make sure you 'Describe the files' after you import - either do it then, or hit the 'File Options' button later, and make any necessary changes from the auto-XML generation from ID3 tags - some stuff may be wrong.
12. IMPORTANT NOTE #2 - click 'Do not make derivations of this show' button unless you want 64kbps, OGG, VBR versions of all you shows as well. I recommend you DON'T get derivations unless you're uploading VBR MP3s or WAVs, cos they can be confusing at low bitrates. |
