Ampex 100 brochure
LMA claims GD collection has 6570 items spanning 1965 - 1995
Browsing Grateful Dead by Year:
The NY Times just reported
"Nearly 2,200 Dead shows exist on tape, of the 2,350 or so that the group played."
Let's assume "the experts" listened to every show available that's been taped. For argument's sake, each tape has about 2 and a half hours of music recordings on it. That's 5500 hours of tape you/ve listened to. Maybe you have a mm-permit, and bags and bags of smoke. Throw in a computer, high-speed internet, and those killer Stax phones. 1-2-3... Go! Subtract from your 8-hours of sleep the food-intake you need daily, and the time it takes to get and eat your food. Assume you're listening to GD collection 16 hours a day. It still takes you 344 days to listen to 2200 GD shows - that's a year. What about all the other newer sources - how many of them have you listened to? All the AUDs? Some of the MTXs are very sweet sources. Did I forget to mention DTS 5.1? Not to mention JGB and LOM. So I guess that makes me the moron I know I am. I only saw them about 25 times, mostly late '72 to late '73. And I only have about 400 shows. I rarely listen past the '73 era, but for Sugaree. What I do know is that I love the way these guys sound. Fuckin' Veneta! I miss Jer very much. Thanks very much to The Archive and eTree.

Betty Cantor
Comment from Ron Wickersham:
stack of McIntosh 2300's used by Phil
shows the large Cannon P connector which connects to the bass.
Comment from Ron Wickersham:
Jerry's rig shows the McIntosh 3500 tube amplifiers
sitting on a Zero aluminum transport case.
Comment from Ron Wickersham:
the piano pickup system shown was built by Carl Countryman from Palo Alto
and is capacitive (uses the wonderful 911 op-amps made by Radiation in Florida).

I also would love to see/hear more about Ron Wickersham. I would place his innovative thinking right up there with guys like Les Paul and Tom Dowd.
Nonetheless, there is no body in this business as mother f&^%ing cool as Betty Cantor Jackson! And she is gorgeous too!!!
Betty, if you are out there, God bless you!
Tom

I love these tapedeck shots...I worked with Uhers and Sennheisers in the 70s, and loved them, but they were small time by comparison!
