I used Samplitude's time stretcher. I deployed it in hopes that it would cause the pitch to shift with it automatically - like analog. I did NOT dial in an extra pitch change. I honestly don't know if the pitch changed with the time stretch correction I made. I am a Newbie using Samplitude. I put up the process module JPG for everyone to see. My sense of pitch and ear training is meager. That's why I've brought this up for discussion. Maybe I should have used a few PMs first.

"Since we are a music community here, I was thinking maybe several of you have excellent pitch, or even perfect pitch. Samplitude's Pitch Shifting processor increments in half steps, at a resolution of 100ths of a half step. Somebody give us the correct number to shift up, and we're done here."
I don't see how a tape sitting in a box can go out of pitch. I am confident we have a tape speed problem. This is causing a pitch problem, just as I would expect in analog. Both should be corrected, unless there is some extra processing we don't know about.
Is the pitch on these fixes correct? Most importantly, we just want to get it right. I felt I had to fix my mistakes. I'm rooting for CM.

I screwed up twice out of two tries. First I patched a new source that was playing slow. I didn't correct it because I don't have ear training for this, and was unaware it was slow. Then I corrected it with CM's data, but it was speed corrected only, not pitch corrected - at this point I was simply trying to fix my own mistake - I thought this was necessary. Bad decision? But I learned what one needs to know to correctly analyze, cite, and repair tape sources using speed correction alone, pitch correction alone, or both - resampling. I also have nailed down the math behind this. I apologize to all whom I may have confused. Get the Miller fix. At the time the new source was released, we did NOT know if CM was around. People were asking for this patch.

This is the greatest music sharing community I've ever seen. I am very proud to be with all of you. The down-side of submitting one's work here (a new fileset, or a fixed fileset) is that you can't take it back - just like an e-mail you've submitted. Hey, if I didn't make mistakes sometimes, I'd hardly ever learn a thing. Sorry if I disappointed. I'm trying to keep busy, trying to learn, and trying to give back. I appreciate all the support and understanding from everyone. I am a better person because of this place.
I do have a much better understanding for just how incredible the work and efforts of CM, Mr Seamons, Mr Tobin, and many of the other master-Masterers are. No excuses for me. This work is substantial. The details are unforgiving. The traps and ease of errors are endless. One mistake, and people will let you know. This is an amazing place. I can't thank all of you enough.
