The boys are tight and energetic. The sound is excellent. The tapes are fantastic quality. Bertha smokes - right out of the gate. With a strong and powerful tempo, they are definitely warmed-up already. Bobby's vocals trump Good Lovin' and it is very well performed - just keeps getting better and better. What do they do next? They slow it down - with Sugaree - pulling out the stops, now that the temporal and dynamic ranges are wide open. Jer's vocals are rich and mature, yet youthful sounding and full of passion. He really pours it out strongly when singing Sugaree, holding his notes well and barely omitting maybe 2 syllables from the entire lyrics. After Keith toys with "twinkle-twinkle little star" in the 2nd break, Jer's solo impresses over and over. During his noodling, he cleverly nails some nice licks in a few off-beat runs - my favorite being at 08:40. All-in-all, this show breaks the ice well for any under-appreciative die-hards who maybe are afraid to listen to anything past 1968 or 1973. Thank you everyone for making this show available to all of us.
