Forum: feature_films Subject: Audio/Video Sync Problem

Video downloaders have been reporting that my uploads have audio and video out of sync. Looking into this, the files with this problem are the embedded flash video and other derived files that were made from MPEG-4s produced using XviD or H-264 encoders. Files encoded with ffmpeg appear to be unaffected, as do DivX-encoded files produced separately. The original files uploaded are all in sync. I suspect my software (Handbrake, Mac version 0.93) is producing files that cause problems for IA's software, and I will only upload MPEG-4 files encoded with ffmpeg or DivX for the time being. However, I would like to know if anything can be done for those files already uploaded. Affected files include: Bulldog Drummond at Bay The Big Sleep trailer Forbidden Planet trailer The Fall of the House of Usher trailer Harvey trailer Bulldog Drummond's Bride Arrest Bulldog Drummond Sabotage I've re-uploaded 'Forbidden Planet trailer', 'The Big Sleep trailer', 'The Fall of the House of Usher trailer', and 'Harvey trailer'. I've removed derivative files for 'Bulldog Drummond at Bay', 'Bulldog Drummond's Bride', 'Arrest Bulldog Drummond', and 'Sabotage'. I hope they stay that way! When possible, I'll re-upload fixed copies of 'Arrest Bulldog Drummond', and 'Sabotage' and maybe the others, though re-encoded copies of 'Bulldog Drummond at Bay' and 'Bulldog Drummond's Bride'have been uploaded.

Why don't you try re-deriving them? You can do this by going to the details page, click "Edit item", click "Item Manager" at the top of the next page, and finally click "Derive." Try doing just one to see if this works; if it does, go ahead and re-derive the rest.

I tried that. No joy.

Looking around, I've noticed others have the same problem with out-of-sync videos being produced. The only solution I've found is to use a different program and create new copies. Seems to have worked. I've used Handbrake more than two dozen times to produce videos for upload. These didn't yield out-of-sync derivatives. All I can think is that IA's encoding program has changed recently.
