I dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night, alive as you or me. Hey, Roky's got some great post 13th Floor Elevators music with way out lyrics, well worth checking out - he of course being a survivor of the Avalon Ballroom acid daze! See my review of '80s era Roky (in a jugular vein) featuring "Bloody Hammer" & "Bermuda" at: http://mog.com/uncle_creepy/blog/1331694

Hey CPW, are you familiar with an Austin band, Okkervil River? I'll see them for the first time on Friday (opening for Wilco) but they have collaborated with Roky and have played a bunch of shows with him and written some new tunes with him that are supposed to come out on something with him. A bunch of clips on youtube of them together. The little bit I've heard sounds like, at times, a folkier Arcade Fire. I'm, in the vernacular of my youth, "diggin' it".

No, BD, I wasn't familiar with Okkervil River until you mentioned them.

They sound good, from your description and from what I read on Wikipedia.

My back-up iBook (OS 9.1) won't let me watch youtube videos, but I'll check Okkervil River out when I'm up and running again.

It's possible Cyril or Paulie in Magic Christian saw 'em play at South by Southwest, I'll ask if they did.

How were they on Friday?

Thanks for the tip.

Needless to say, surfing without a 21st century computer is dragsville!
At least I can stream music on archive.org with an OS most sites no longer support entirely, though I do have dsl with OS 9.1) but no no email, not much music (muy iTunes works ok) or ability to update my browser beyond I.Explorer 5.1 !

They were ok - only caught two songs as by time got up hill, parked, and mentally prepped for entry to venue they were about done. Need to see them when it is their show, but have to like fact Roky is working with them

Cyril mentions liking a folk rock band from England who did the SxSW Austin festival... he doesn't remember their name. yeah, Roky's on fire as always. The rumor I heard is that Sky was gonna be working with him in Austin - imagine that, yow! Stand Up For The Fire Demon!

Come check out next week's second annual Gasoline and Garter Belts' exhibition at the Alternative Cafe down in Seaside (the soon to be ruined bohemian enclave (= low rent) part of Monterey. A certain Mr. Scully confirmed last night he'll be there and bring some friends (and yes, he still has many - whatever his "rap", he's always been unfailingly polite and sincerely nice every time I've been around him):

Pin up girls and customized hot rods. Reception feature ice cold PBR and cheeze whiz on a cracker!
