i realize Fernario is not a big fan of LaCie - but I have been using them for years and have loved them! I have a 250 a 500 and 750 and they are absolute workhorses. small, simple, and (for me) very reliable. middle of the road in price.

I use typical, run of the mill USB's, buy them at wal-mart. I think its around 20 bucks for an 8GB, but they also have 2, 4, 16 GB.

I have been very happy with my 1-T My Book, after a bad experience with a La Cie. Full disclosure, though, I trashed the La Cie one time on this board and a number of people came to their defense, so it's likely that I just had a lemon.

Good call on Independence Day: I forgot about that one.

I use internal HD`s that I have stored in a rack labeled with contents.I use the drives in a dock connected to my computer. The dock systems are priced from $19 and up.Also the internal HD`s are cheaper than the stand alone ex-HD`s.
I have seagates and hitachis and have had no problems with any of them, but I only run them when I need to access something on them. Each one is backed up with another though just in case.
With 1TB available now for well under $100 you can save and backup lots of data.
But as I stated before, back up anything you save with HD`s to play it safe.I know people who use CD and DVD for back up,but I just use more HD`s...

I have two Seagates, one for over three yrs now...never a problem with either. You can also get very small ones that hold 500 gb, and fit in your pocket for $100.

So, I have my entire DEAD collection, easily, on that one little HD, and it connects easily, and FAST, with all computers it encounters.

Of course, this is only 65-71. And I am not a completist, but you get the idea.

You don't have to be a completist.

Just concentrate on the best (as you are).

Maybe extend to '72-'73.

I am trying to get into '77 but the duplicated, plodding drumming is driving me up the wall.

The things that make it 1/2 worthwhile are the "Peggy-O's" and the instrumental breaks in the middle of the (otherwise plodding) "Friend(s) of the Devil".

Keep on Truckin'

Try http://www.newegg.com/
They have deals all the time and always free shipping.
I personally prefer Western Digital hds, but I also have had no problems with Seagate.

I've had a WD 500 GB MyBook for a couple of years - no issues whatsoever - great drive. I got a SimpleTech DouProDrive 1TB last year ($75 from an Arab in a parking lot off Craigslist) that I had to send back, as it had a couple screws loose. SimpleTech replaced, and now its adequate - but whenever I remove a drive (iPod, flashdrive, etc.) the drive shuts down. Fortunately, the simpletech is my backup, so if (and when) it goes down, I'll simply replace - bottom line - go with Western Digital.

At considerable expense to my wife's love and patient indulgence of my GD habit, ("who in the heck needs 5TB's of storage?"), last summer I bought a Thecus NAS 5200Pro with 5 1TB Seagate ST31000340NS drives.....with a RAID 5 array, it yields about 3.5 TB of storage......Cost was about $1800 including the drives. It is complicated and not for the faint of heart but it gives me plenty of expansion space.
