http://www.nliteos.com/index.html
Is only running 15 processes in the backgroud versus 45-60 for normally XP professional. It runs as fast as linux or BSD and is many magnitudes more secure. I created them for my office (already have legal licenses so it is not a copyright violation since they are our copies). None of my machines have succumbed to the usual microshit registry OS slowdowns.
I noticed the Archive was down for several hours, its up and running now. My new scanner is really saving me hours of time. HP 5590 with duplex ADF. Put 50 pages on and it runs unattended like a charm. This works well for the majority of my stuff since it is almost exclusively 81/2" by 11" or a5 size. (technical manuals).
I wish that they would KISS, but I guess it is to much to ask that intelligent people create optimally simple projects.
Best wishes,
Gerry

Super intelligence people are those who use their intelligence to write KISS applications, and then prefer staying in their back rooms, using their KISS application tools to do useful work

So, I downloaded portable Firefox 2 onto a USB pen drive, and ran that Firefox 2 off the pen drive as needed.
The only thing to watch, is you can not run both at the same time, so maybe another brand of browser on your HDD, and Portable FF on a pen drive.
I suspect it can be run of a CD too now.

That pen drive idea, might just restore use of the old up loader we all liked, and had taken away from us, against our wishes, by somebody superior to us, who decided what we wanted, without the politeness of checking with us first.

Opera is probably a better choice because it can be hacked down to a lite version just like XP with nlite.

I use kmeleon, which is a fork of firefox and is much faster and has less crap to deal with. You can install speed up macros which make it even faster or tinker with the config file yourself. Firefox while being much better than IE is still to bloated for my taste. I like my life simpler, one of my automobiles is a 1974 plymouth Valient and the other a 1969 Chevrolet Pickup; the newrer car is a 1992 chevrolet cavalier which I stripped out most of the autmated stuff including the air conditioner. I would much rather add what I need than to deal with the crap that I will never use. For my customers, if they want those bells and whistles and the slow performance which goes with them, I give them what they want.

I agree re cars, so much crap under the the bonnets, how do I get at spark plugs for example, the heart of the car.
My example is a 1930s Austin 7 or 10.
basic 4 cylinder engine, transmission, wheels, 4 seats and a body, steering wheel, gear stick, go stop and clutch pedal.
And everything so simple, if it broke, 5 minutes and $2 to fix.
But ONLY a small gas/petrol tank. Who cared, it went to the moon on one tank fill.
Good night, this night, its an early night
