http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-09-08.sbd.goodbear.78349.flac16 First time it was played in its entirety was at this show. Bits and pieces of it were showing up for a little while with the first Let It Grow being the night before and the prelude and part I popping up at these shows: 7/21/72 Paramount Northwest Theatre Seattle WA http://www.archive.org/details/gd72-07-21.sbd.cotsman.9246.sbeok.shnf (DP10) 11/19/72 Hofheinz Pavilion - University of Houston Houston TX http://www.archive.org/details/gd1972-11-19.sbd.lai.3910.sbefail.shnf 3/21/73 Utica Memorial Auditorium Utica NY http://www.archive.org/details/gd73-03-21.sbd.cotsman.5072.sbeok.shnf 3/26/73 Baltimore Civic Center Baltimore MD http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-03-26.sbd.miller.34787.sbeok.flac16 3/28/73 Springfield Civic Center Arena Springfield MA http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-03-28.sbd.miller.86459.sbeok.flac16 4/2/73 Boston Garden Boston MA http://www.archive.org/details/gd73-04-02.sbd.miller.17346.sbeok.shnf Actually Bobby had been kicking around tune for a while as the beginning can be heard in the little tease he does at the end of MAMU on 8-6-71. I love the suite when played in its entirety and generally prefer it to the stand alone LIGs which are played a little quicker than these early ones. My personal favorite WRS is 2-23-74. http://www.archive.org/details/gd74-02-23.sbd.bertha-ashley.26362.sbeok.shnf

There's another '72 show where the Prelude popped up -
http://www.archive.org/details/gd1972-08-25.sbd.miller.92840.sbeok.flac16
As they're wrapping up the Other One, Weir starts playing the prelude - then the tape cuts - what came next?

Of these two debut Let It Grow shows, I liked 9/7/73 more (as a show), it had more jamming zing.
Let It Grow certainly sounded well-practiced right out of the gate...no wonder, since they'd recorded it for the album the month before. (In fact, it's one of the few Wake of the Flood pieces that hadn't been played live before being recorded.)

You would have to assume it was only the prelude based on the other shows before September '73. Interesting that there is no info on the rest of that show.

I also caught a typo in my original post, not DP10, Download Series 10.

I believe that would be Keith. He wrote the song with Hunter. Only played live 6 times.

Hi Larry!

Nice post, but you neglected one of my all favorites from "The Other" Curtis Hixon show...

Are you making the trip up to Long Island this fall?

Howdy D!

Yes that one is good too. Isn't that the one where Phil makes some comment about this being the quiet part right before they start?

As for LI, I don't think I am. That trip should be in October and I have been trying to limit my traveling while we are still getting acclimated to the new digs. Of course the wife doesn't see it that way as i am heading to Baltimore, DC and back to Miami over the next 2 and half weeks. Might have to come up some other excuse to come up in the spring or maybe i can time another Miami trip with your annual visit to the Keys.

The full WRS, is one of Weir's greatest achievements . This kind of gentle pastoral beauty slowly leaves him ( and the band ) by the 80's . He starts writing in a more "urban" feel .And his guitar tone becomes increasingly more jagged,"grey, steel" in feel . I like "Stranger", and "Victim", but when you listen to the WRS part one, you can't help wish they could have still pulled that off later .

I hear you. If you ever get the opportunity, check out the acoustic demo of WRS that he did. It was commercially released as a bonus track on the re-release of Wake Of The Flood. Really nice stuff.

Man, I love that 3/26/73 show from Baltimore. This second set sequence ranks with my favorites from 73...

He's Gone ->
Truckin' ->
Weather Report Suite Prelude ->
Wharf Rat ->
Me And Bobby McGee ->
Eyes Of The World ->
Morning Dew
