Well, I am no expert but if I know anything from Disney and you are in trouble. Disney's smiling face in family entertainment and "son, you touch my propety and you wish you were dead." He corporate lawyers would tie you up and shed you through the corporate shedder.

I don't know much, but I must agree with quigs about Disney stuff. I'm sure you've seen the TV spots for re-released videos: "Buy NOW!!! before it goes back in the vault...FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Makes them sound kinda possessive, don't ya think?

But I wish you much good luck with the rest; you have plenty of titles in that list that I wouldn't mind getting.

I won't mention them here, because I don't wanna jinx myself.

Thanks for taking the time to check them at copyright.gov
The dilemma is that if a title doesn´t show up there it doesn´t automatically mean that it is in the public domain :(

I was using the combination of copyright.gov and the online catalogue of some public domain distributors myself ... and it failed me several times
None the less it gives you an good idea of what might be in the public domain

Already here: MIDDLETON FAMILY AT THE NEW YORK WORLDS FAIR DR KILDARES STRANGE CASE I ran a program that looked for these films in the inventories of some dealers in p.d. movies (Filmchest, Buyout, Desert_Island, Festival). Here are the titles that were found. DEADLY COMPANIONS (Desert_Island) DR KILDARES STRANGE CASE (Desert_Island) GUILTY OF TREASON (Desert_Island) HOME IN OKLAHOMA (Filmchest) LOST HONEYMOON (Festival, Buyout) MOON OVER HARLEM (Desert_Island, Festival) SCOTT OF THE ANTARCTIC (Desert_Island) TOM BROWNS SCHOOLDAYS (Festival) TULSA (Desert_Island, Festival, Filmchest) Of course, this doesn't prove anything, but it may give you an idea of what films to transcode first while waiting for Video-Cellar's analysis.

I was hoping that some more titles would be in the public domain ... let´s see what Video Cellar has to say ...

Got my fingers crossed for "I, The Jury" (loves me some Mike Hammer!) and "Sex in Chains" just for the most excellently lurid title. :)

IMDb shows "Merrily We Go to Hell" as owned by Universal, which is a shame, because it's the most intriguing title I think I've ever heard.

Take (some) heart, Universal has let a few titles slip into the public domain. Not many, but they exist. Like Private Buckaroo:
