Grateful Dead Forums — for Dead Head only!

HTML coding instructions from The Heads at The Archive

How can I make links clickable in my posts?

You may have noticed that some posts have highlighted links in them. Internet Archive forums permit the use of HTML codes. Suppose you want to make a link to the Internet Archive home page, one that looks like this: Internet Archive home page. To do this, you would enter the following HTML code: <a href="http://www.archive.org">Internet Archive home page</a>.

How can I format text in my posts?

Since the Internet Archive forum system accepts HTML codes, you can make text bold, italic, underlined, or even colored by using normal HTML codes.

How can I insert MP3s, photos of weed, pics of Jer, filthy-rotten graphics, laundry lists, and tables of set-lists in my posts?

Look up the HTML codes. You can use many HTML codes effectively in your posts on these forums. Most importantly, the best use of HTML coding is for page structuring and layout — HyperText Markup Language. There is no "preview function" in the New Post dialog box. It takes practice, time, and technique to get it right. Newly edited postings are bumped to the top. Good luck!

How do I subscribe/unsubscribe to a forum email list?

Next to all forums, you will see a small envelope. When logged in, you can click on this envelope which will allow you to subscribe or unsubscribe to any forum.

How can I get The Grateful Dead around here?

Since the Internet Archive forum system accepts Grateful Dead codes, you can go to Monte's Dead page for a list of stuff.

Browsing Grateful Dead by Year:

Nearly 2,200 Dead shows exist on tape, of the 2,350 or so that the group played.

Thanks Monte--one quick question for you...I don't do much around here of course, other than babble on incessantly, but the other day, would've loved to make the doggies pic "visible" (ie, inserted) as you are describing here. So, I studied up on the link you provided for codes, and gather, I would need to have the image, the JPG, uploaded somewhere (like the like emoticons are Tiger sent me--I guess they are "at" photobucket...right?) so that the "code" I add "finds" it there?

Is that they secret to posting images directly "in" the post? I suppose others here know what they are doing, since many (Earl, Rob, CLIFF) insert their pics rather than just attaching them like dummies such as I...?

Anyway, thanks again for all you do around here.

yep, it has to be somewhere that you can link to

I compose my HTML postings on a scratch page first
I use NotePad
then I "test" it first - elsewhere, out of sight of here

take your "pick"

People seem pretty happy using PhotoBucket to store their photos and video files. Quote, one-click posting, direct to your favorite sites. For free. From there, you can
  • Keep all your pics and videos in one place - room for up to 5,000 photos and hours of video! For free.
  • Share with everyone you know by email, IM or mobile phone.
  • Make slideshows and mashups with music, special effects, captions, and more.
  • Link to your profile, blog or website.

I believe it's prudent to not over-use or abuse the very admirable and respected priveleges we are given on The Forums at The Archive.
