Anyone else enjoy the Bo Diddley set from 3/25/72 as much as I do?

I remember the shit eating grin I could not get off my face the first time I listened to Dick's Picks #30. I still get the same joy listening to that music today! How fun do you think it was being at the Academy of Music for that show, GOP?

There are a few other numbers that Bo sat in for during that set that did not make it onto DP. Unfortunately the poor sound quality of the circulating sources render them very difficult to enjoy, however they are quite compelling nonetheless.

However track 6 from this Bunjes AUD composite is ten minutes of sheer bliss! An extraordinary and sublime jam called Wow Wow Hey Hey. Its so beautiful that it makes me sad that it wasnt included on Dick's Picks #30. Check it out jglynn!

Anyone else enjoy the music the Grateful Dead made with Bo as much as I do?

This was one of the oddest shows I saw. First, we had the rows of Hell's Angel's bikes lining the curb--with their attendent Angels looking mean and scary. The relationship between the NYC Angels and the local hippies was not a good one. Never could figure out why the Dead got into bed with this bunch. Billed as "Jerry Garcia and Friends"--I figured it would be just that--friends plural. But Bo Diddly was worth a dozen friends. When he came out with his box guitar, everyone set to boogying. I don't know why the DP is incomplete--though they do seem to be missing a few of those shows and there are gaps elsewhere. Thank God the Angels were well behaved!

Bo Diddley was tremendous . Not much on melody, but the groove and sound !
I enjoy this stuff with the Dead , more so than I like Chuck Berry's stuff from this period ; but the 50's records are "the shit ". Because there was always the jam/groove thing in his music, he fit better with the late 60's , early 70's stuff that other 50's artists , and perfect for the Dead .
His most obvious influence on the Dead , is NFA ( via>Rolling Stones>Buddy Holly) beat .
Interestingly enough, that "Bo Diddley beat", is not heard in the original version of his most famous song "Who Do You Love" . But so many people played it with that beat ( think Quicksilver, the Doors -Robbie Krieger deserves a Nobel Prize for the guitar sound on that !), Bo himself started playing it that way .

I bypassed this based on the reviews of sound quality.

Listening now and it is worth it - saw Bo Diddly & Chubby Checker at Westbury way back in late 80's or early 90's and they rocked.
