please support Greenpeace
The Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia connection with Greenpeace is very strong. It goes way back. On Tuesday, September 13, 1988, Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, the Chairman of Greenpeace USA, and others sat down at a panel in the United Nations. They alerted the world's press to the horror of the vanishing rain forest. When asked why the Grateful Dead was getting into the act and helping to publicize the plight of the rainforest, Jerry Garcia answered, "It seems pathetic that it has to be us, with all the other citizens of the planet, and all the other resources out there, but since no one else is doing anything about it, we don't really have any choice." A dozen years earlier, when the Greenpeace mission had expanded from protesting nuclear proliferation to also include stopping commercial whaling, Country Joe McDonald played at a send-off concert for a Greenpeace ship in Vancouver in 1976. Country Joe also dedicated his hit single "Save the Whales" to Greenpeace. The next year, when one of the Greenpeace ships, the James Bay, was docked in San Francisco and had no means to get back out on the high seas to continue chasing the whaling fleets, a group of Greenpeacers went to see Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead, who was playing with the Jerry Garcia Band in Berkeley. When the Greenpeacers laid out their dilemma to Jerry -- they needed $10,000 to fuel up the ship and buy provisions -- he was immediately open to the idea of doing a benefit concert. Five days later, on August 12th, 1977, the Jerry Garcia Band stood right there on San Francisco’s Pier 31, in front of the James Bay, and played to a sold-out crowd. The concert raised $20,000, and the James Bay sailed out of port on August 19, headed back out to help save the whales.

these are THE 1967 roots The Boys laid down with "the rest of us"
Jerry Garcia: What we're thinking about is a peaceful planet. We're not thinking of anything else. We're not thinking about any kind of power. We're not thinking about any of those kinds of struggles. We're not thinking about revolution or war or any of that. That's not what we want. Nobody wants to get hurt. Nobody wants to hurt anybody. We would all like to be able to live an uncluttered life, a simple life, a good life and think about moving the whole human race ahead a step. Phil Lesh: I think that personally, the more people that turn on, the better world it's gonna be. Bob Weir: You can point out the example that the people that live in the community and play around with dope and stuff like that - they don't have wars, you know. And they don't have a lot of the problems that alot of society has. Phil Lesh: In essence, the scene has grown up with us, and we have grown up with the scene. We've all grown up together.

The Coast Guard and BP have said it's nearly impossible to know exactly how much oil has gushed since the blast, though it has been roughly estimated the well was spewing at least 200,000 gallons a day. Even at that rate, the spill should eclipse the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident as the worst U.S. oil disaster in history in a matter of weeks.
The oil slick over the water's surface appeared to triple in size in the course of two days, which could indicate an increase in the rate oil is pouring from the well, according to one analysis of images collected from satellites and reviewed by the University of Miami. While it's hard to judge the volume of oil by satellite because of depth, images do indicate growth, experts said.
"The spill and the spreading is getting so much faster and expanding much quicker than they estimated," said Hans Graber, executive director of the university's Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing.
In an exploration plan and environmental impact analysis filed with the federal government in February 2009, BP said it had the capability to handle a "worst-case scenario" at the site, which the document described as a leak of 162,000 barrels per day from an uncontrolled blowout—6.8 million gallons each day. — Who the hell signed off on this bullshit?
And the situation could become far more grave if the oil gets into the Gulf Stream and carries it to the beaches of Florida—and potentially loops around the state's southern tip and up the eastern seaboard. Prime fishing waters, pristine beaches and countless wildlife could be ruined.

the intent of the new law is fine with me - it just has to be put into practice humanely
i mean, i couldnt just run off to Spain, hang out, soak off the system, never become a citizen, and think no one is going to care.
i am not being racist - I just say that if you love this country, want to live here, then BECOME A CITIZEN!!! I know plenty of people who have, as i am sure you do too. Immigration is a GREAT thing - if it is done LEGALLY

OBAMA
I never hear about gas prices anymore. They were $1.61 when OBAMA took office.
What happened to global warming? I never hear about it anymore.
OBAMA
Hail the savior. He has come to deliver us all! Deliver to where, I don't know.
Now I will get ready to get quoted and blasted.
This commentary was based on the few opening lines, not the whole picture laden body of work.

If this is all the right can show me, sorry Palin, McCain, and the rest to spew rhetoric.
If I remember correctly a year before Bush left office gas prices spiked to over 5.00 a gallon. And at the time if you recall the only explanation Bush could provide for the reason was NONE!( he wasn't smart enough to explain the futures market that took a hit because of derivitives)
you can bet petro prices will spike after this disaster, at least we know the reasons this time, BP doen't give a good GD about what they do to the enviroment.
