Ok, a friend with an upcoming birthday is a total brent-head. I have a couple mid-80's shows in mind, but what's yours?

Thanks!

I have always been fond of 8-31-82 for the scarlet>fire, 9-9-87 for the tightest Good Golly>blue dress, 10-3-87 has a killer Maggie's farm>cumberland, and you really can't go wrong with 3-19-90 (esp. post Eyes jam), 7-14-90 or 7-16-90. Haven't heard 10-25-79, but I can recommend 10-31-79.

try 10.25.79...btw the copy here is excellent...the shakedown is sick and brent goes off with some amazing keybords. remarkable considering how new he was at the time.

the entire second set is phenomenal...

Deadbase 10 lists 10-9-89 first, then 3-22-90. Why 10-9-89, I have no clue. Maybe the Fantasy-> Jude combo. 3-22-90 I can understand, with a great Easy 2 Love you and the one-time-only triad of Jude(the whole song)->Fantasy->Jude. If your friend is a stickler for exact performance of the words, you might want to try something else. Brent tanks about half of the verses, but doesn't lose the magic of the moment and finishes very strong. The night before, 3-21-90, features a SICKO Pockey Way, much better than any of the official releases of that cover. There are a nice batch of examples of him stepping more into the spotlight throughout 1987. 3-16-90 may be the best Blow Away overall. I wasn't even there, and I think it beats anything I've heard. 10-19-89 is another good Fantasy-> Jude combo, plus Death Don't is in there. If your friend has all these bases covered, post again and I'll work a little harder to find something.

She got some mutant tape where Garcia is way low in the mix, and most of what you hear is Brent rhythm work and harmonies.

It's about her favorite tape. It's like that.

So I should clarify - it's about the keyboard work, rather than the vocals. Me, I favor Aladdin 8.31.81, but the show hear is a sub-optimal aud.

what do you think?

I agree Hamilton 3-21-90 is a sweet show featuring lots of highlights from brent. You may also want to checkout cape cod col. in 79, featuring some choice playing on the ol' ivories. Also, I can't recall the date exactly, but Brendan Byrne (fall 88 or 89) is also a smoker.
Be sure to look at any of the early 1980 shows, you can't go wrong.

sperry

11-26-82 the dead in Jamaica! Though it's been panned in Deadbase, I still dig the show and the vibe of it. Brent is really heavy in the mix, and the Fire has a nice groove to it. That's my 1st suggestion

Cape Cod '79, the Franklin's is choice. Brent and Jerry just sparring back and forth for a good 15 mins. One of my favorite Franklin's. Half Step is solid as well.

7/6/90 from Cardinal Stadium. Brent's piano intro on Easy to Love You is absolutely beautiful. It's the standard I judge all Brent songs by. Take a listen. Also, Greek 8/18/89 features amazing keyboard playing, particularly on my all time favorite Iko, LL Rain, and Terrapin. Both shows are must haves with Brent shining throughout. Copps coliseum is there too.
