While I couldn't be happier with the selection of music here that more than satisfies my tastes, my wife does not always get the same satisfaction. After listening to 3-4 of my selections, I'll ask if there is anything she'd like to hear. "Some female would be nice". We both enjoy Bonnie Raitt, Annie Lennox, female leads on Fleetwood Mac, etc. She's more into the Sade, Desiree sound than me, but I'll listen thru to get a little more Garcia on. Long way around, sorry, but any suggestions to help balance my downloading? Thanks.

What about Donna the Buffalo? A little rough around the edges but man do they have some energy. Mainly rock, country, zydeco, a little funkiness. Tara Nevins switches off with Jeb about every other song.
They opened for the Dead at the Terrapin show and I think they are opening for Ratdog for a couple shows.
Like I said, rough at first, but energetic and very addictive ;)

Check out Little Feat. They have Shaun Murphy as one of their vocalists. In addition, they are one GREAT band. The last time I looked, they have 135 shows for download. Check their Website out also.

You will not be disappointed.

Appreciate the input. What a great website! Nice call on Little Feat, they're a regular part of our patio mix. Fortunately for me she also enjoys their older stuff with Lowell. She can also get into Assembly of Dust. Maybe Reid can sing high enough notes to qualify! Thanks again for everyones suggestions. Feel free to add to the list.

There are lots of female vocalists and bands with a female lead. Consider the following:

Sally Timms -- country
Charlotte Martin -- don't know how to classify her; she's good
Mara -- rock
Annie Bethancourt -- singer-songwriter
Deb Talan -- kinda folky-rock; mellow
The Weepies -- Deb Talan with her husband
Anya Marina -- west coast
Jason and Jane -- just beautiful together
Jefferson Starhip -- can't leave Grace Slick out
Lauren DeRose -- don't know how to classify her
Lisa Sanders -- ditto
Terra Naomi -- west coast. Lots of fun
Martina Sorbara -- don't know how to classify
Tristan Prettyman -- kinda folky-rock. Great!
Meghan La Roque -- don't know how to classify
Mieka Pauley -- don't miss her
Donna Hopkins -- blues rock
Toby Lightman -- star quality
Vanessa Carlton -- crooner
Rocks from the Garden -- Grateful Dead covers, female vocalist

And these are just some the ones that I like. I'm leaving out some.

> Sally Timms -- country

Only *very very* loosely! Sally is a long time member of the Mekons, the first-wave British punk band turned sorta-quasi-alt-country-but-still-very-punk. And her solo stuff definitely reflects these roots, although it's a little mellower than the Mekons. I highly recommend it.

You put together a good list though. The only one I can think of that you missed that definitely deserves mention is Katie Todd, who does a very nice, mellow (but not too mellow) pop-rock.

Agricloa- Thanks so much for the time, effort and thought you put into this response. Downloaded a Tristan Prettyman, Donna Hopkins Band and a Mieka Pauley last night and sampled them for my wife. Tristan was a winner( it happened to be a very crisp recording), DHB was a little too "jammy" for her and the Mieka show was not a good recrding and may not have done her justice, especially when the Tristan show was soooo clean. I'll repeat the process until we get thru all your suggestions. Thanks again. She was pleased I had made the inquiry on her behalf. It only took me 8 months, but I created an awesome collection of Dead shows in the meantime. Thanks archives! Long live LMA.
