REVIEW:
Green Light is a jazz/rock trio (drums, bass, guitar) with a heavy emphasis on jamming. They sound a bit like Soulive, but tend to be a bit more chilled-out. For a trio, they are very tight and incredibly talented. The bassist in particular stuck out for me. He really plays around a lot and sets the groove like a master. The guitarist is decent and lays down a solid jam. The drummer glues things together and does a very good job. Together they put out a great sound that grooves, but yet is interesting enough that it doesn't get boring.
Their jams are solid, but rather than rely on extended soloing, they play around with what is in their songs. This results in some interesting and energetic climaxes in their jams. The songs themselves aren't anything too incredible, and the lack of vocals can make some of their songs a bit boring. I would not reccomend this band to anyone who doesn't like noodling and prefers good stand-alone songs. But when they start to get into the groove, watch out, because it gets nasty. For some nasty stuff, look at Where's the Love II and any Improv.
The sound is superb for all of the shows I listened to, which enhanced my music listening experience. I really enjoyed listening to Green Light, I would definitely consider seeing them if they came to my area. If I had to give them a rating, I'd give them 3.5 out of 5 stars. They are solid, but they are a few good songs short.
