I have plenty of wonderful soundboards but I really need to score some audience recordings that are candy.
Any suggestions for each decade as to the best aud. recordings that would reflect great playing w/ clear audience participation?

Thanks in advance as I know you're opinions will put me on the shows to get :)

Peace

The Oade Brothers recordings of the spring east coast tour of 1985 are well worth a visit, in my view. In particular, look into the nassau coliseum run at the end of march- three great shows! Good luck!

Here are some of my favorite shows recorded in the audience.

7/17-18/82
7/27-29/82 (I love Purple Gels reviews)
9/14/82
9/2/83
10/15/83 (St Stephen again)
10/17/83 (a classic aud that was well circulated)
10/31/83 (final St. Stephen)
12/27/83 (just learned about this one the other day)
4/20/84
3/31/85 (Candyman and Day Tripper)
9/2/85 (almost any Oade from 85 is great)
3/23/87 (headphones recommended for the Stranger)

Any of Jerry Moore's recordings from 1974, also Rob Bertrando's recording of 7.21.74. I was listening to Moore's recording of 6.30.74 last night and could actually "hear" the shape of the Wall of Sound: vocal cluster up high in the center, Jerry on the left, Keith closer in on the right, Phil's stacks taller than the rest, etc. Plus the music is amazing (Playin>UJB>Playin & China>Rider graced my eardrums).

While the recording equipment of the time doesn't have the extended frequency response, top and bottom, of more modern gear, the clarity of the WOS is quite remarkable on these recordings.

1969-05-03 - agreed, one of the finest '60s audience tapes.

1968-03-03 Haight Street, OK sound, 21 minute Viola Lee Blues, dig the banter!

1968-03-26 - "an outstanding audience recording that is often mistaken for a soundboard"

1970-11-05

1971-08-05

One of you or your kids may someday figure out a way to get the shows that were never taped - bend all the rules and figger out how to go back in time - since going BACK in time is against all probabilities... but then there are those elusive akashic records...

try the anchorage 1980 shows
anything by Jerry Moore, Steve Rolfe, Barry Glassberg and the Oades are usually very good

In the 199X's there are many excellent tapes, try some of the ams mics for the 1993 MSG run.
