I'm a big fan of 06-06-91 and 06-07-91 from Deer Creek. 06-07 opens with one of my favorite Half-Steps. Also has some other hot spots: Maggie's Farm, Loser, Truckin>New Speedway Boogie (there was hardly a misfire during the entire tour with this pairing. Too bad they didn't do it more often), and a powerful closer with the Weight! Nice stuff.

and, someone mentioned before 06-17-91 is smoking! Great Eyes opener. Lots of Dark Star teases with a nice, slinky, Loose Lucy.

Really love the entire Sept. '91 run at Boston Garden. No matter if he's jammin' on the piano, top keyboard, or making the accordion into a rocking instrument, he adds incredible fire and texture to every show. Having been there, I could see the incredible interplay between J. Garcia and Bruce. Bruce really seemed to get Jerry's motor running. Set 2 from 9-22...Samson...Iko to open, right thru Sugar Mag had the balcony actually moving up and down. I was in the front row with my 12 year old son, Stephen. Made sure he was holding on . Woohoo!

Yeah, I thought for sure they'd tear that old building down that night. Loved the CC Rider-->Takes a lot to laugh. A memorable night, for sure.

Have no idea why you needed to respond to a thread from 2005 just to bash Hornsby.
I was no fan of Hornsby on accordion but most of the time he played Piano with the Dead.
If I was going to be down on somebody it would be on Vince Welnick but he is long gone now so what good does it do anyway.
Maybe you were blown of course by the Artic Vortex.

The sept. madison show where they -start- dark star out of space is the night hornsby yelled at jerry during drums for being jacked up on smack. the story is in one of the silly jerry books. the reason we don't see vince welnick anymore is the rest of the remaining members of the dead blame him partly for jerry not being able to quit smack in the 90's. After talking to pete sears one night, he alluded to the fact that the dead was hiring someone (keyboard player) with a jones, I guess so he and jerry would be on the same page (shudder). After Bill Graham died, hornsby was gone the next week, he couldn't take watching the fat man slipping away. anyhooo it's nice to listen to a decent keyboard player, and it's nice to hear jerry try a last ditch effort to prove to bruce he still has the chops. on europe tour you could see bruce calling out the chord changes for vince, vince can't play his way out of a paper bag.

Right up my alley. I sometimes feel like I need to apologize for liking 90-91 Dead, but Bruce added a musical dimension and consistency the band never had before. Different stuff than the 70's and 80's for sure, and while the straight piano sound might not be as trippy or soft as some of Brent and Keith's work, it created a frame for Jerry and the boys to work around and launch from. Plus he's a huge Dark Star fan (see 6/17/91 - teases throughout). And Bruce had the ability to transform a two or three note lick from anyone in the band into a theme they'd all play off of. The 3/31 and 4/1/91 mentions are right on. I'm a big 6/14/91 fan but honestly if you really like his contributions, listen to as much 91 as you can. Seriously. The Sept 90 MSG shows are great as well with 9/19 and 9/20 standouts but these feel a little too raw for me sometimes and the 91 soundboards can't be beat for sound quality.
My other fave 91s in no particular order:
3/27
4/5,7-9,28
6/19,20,22,24,25
8/16
9/4-6,10,22

Sorry for being wordy, but I love this stuff and in my opinion you can't go wrong!
