Forum: etree Subject: Renewed call for best sounding Dead AUDs

I've checked past forum threads on this, but would appreciate a more updated list from those reviewers in the know who can point me to the best-possible sounding GD AUD recordings on this site; I mean really as close as you can get to a SBD or better, even if there are only a handful. (5-1-81 is the best i've heard so far).

I've found it pretty exasperating recently (through no one's fault at all of course) finding very good shows that sadly just don't meet the sound standard given how many of us were spoiled by the gorgeous SBD's that used to be available for DL.

Any and all help greatly appreciated, and thanks again to the archive.

GC

Great recommendations so far. I also think 9.16.94(nice mics), 6.9.90, 5.6.90, 7.2.89, 7.15.88, and 4.24.88 are worth a listen. I agree that there is a lot of good stuff from 1985. Since the policy change my apprecition of audience recordings has grown a ton, especially when listening with a nice pair of headphones-it really puts me there way more than listening on speakers for some reason. So when are the other 10,000+ audience recordings out there going to be available on the archive?

I will second the recommendation for 8-6-71 - one of my favorite shows regardless of sound quality - the microphone placement was just right, it has the best qualities of SBD and AUD recordings (even though it is just an AUD).

There is a relatively new pitch-corrected version by Sir Mick that you can download from this site.

Another fun AUD is 5/18/68 - it was recorded on stage by Jorma Kaukonen. Nowheres as good a recording as the above, but also an excellent performance.

Purple Gel, I'm surprised you didn't mention one of your favs. 7/29/82 These don't all sound like SBD's, but what the heck these are all very listenable auds. 7/4/81 "we used to play for silver, now we play for Clyde"? 8/30/81 4/19/82 7/17,18/82 (others might think these are to lite sounding) 7/25/82 4/13/83 8/21/83 (my favorite hidden gem) 9/2/83 (someone in a review calls this the Mac Daddy of '83) 10/31/83 10/17/83 1985 - almost everything is great from the Oades and others 2/12/86 7/4/86 FOB

Bopper, I tried to keep my list a little shorter this time, I tend to list too many, I think. I could probably reel off 50 or more great auds, just of shows I was at, not to mention other great auds, and I'm sure you could as well. You are right, of course, all three of those Rocks shows are great, but 7-29 is a personal favorite. next time I will try to come up with some different shows, don't want to get stale and predictable....LOL. By the way, I love 8-21-83as well, Good Call!!A Couple of other great summer 83 shows... 9-2, 9-10, 9-11 Also check out 7-5-81 at the Zoo at OKC. Also 7-31-82 at Manor Downs Always loved the Manor Downs/OKC runs of 81, 82 and 85. Also just to show that I do actually listen to other years, one of my all time favorite shows is 8-1-73, Dark Star>El Paso>Eyes >Morning Dew, an awesome jam with one of my favorite Dark Stars, a classic 20 minute 1973 Eyes a vewry nice slow Dew and El Paso thrown in the middle just to mix things up!

12/15/86 is pretty clean (Jerry's first show after the coma)opening with Touch of Grey sends the crowd into a wild frenzy. Sometimes the crowd noise is welcomed.

the trouble with 6/8/90 >> http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=11804
is that I get the following messege when i try to download:
