Definately Terrapin Station for the classical fan didn't the dead define jamband? There is a lot of funk goin on with the jamband scene (Shakedown Street- try 4/6/82) and there is a lot of string bands- SCI, Railroad Earth- etc (maybe birdsong) I think a good Let it Grow would work for the jammy or for the metal guy- maybe i should not forget the obvious- made for top 40 with heavy metal lyrics and all- Hell in a bucket

Yess! The "Jam band" category is most difficult because many, many dead songs are "jammy". And these days the "jam band" label is applied to any band which plays songs longer than 3 minutes. Whether it's new-grass or funk, it's all born from THE GRATEFUL DEAD.

Of course, GD are the quintessential jamband. All others bow-down!!

1.)Country: Cumberland Blues (1973-06-23 - Miami)

2.)Jazz fan: Eyes of the World (everyone between '72-'74)

3.)Jam Bands: Blow their minds with "Dark Star > Spanish jam > US Blues" (same as #1 above, 1973-06-23 - Miami)

4.)Classical: Slipknot! (1976-06-14, Beacon Theatre)

5.)Metal fan: first: "Attics of My Life' with a copy of the lyrics(1991-09-26 - Boston)and then "Truckin'" (1977-11-06 - Binghampton - or, everything from that set beginning with St. Stephen through Truckin')

----Another option is pull out the triptych of shows from Nov. 1973: 11/11, 11/14, and 11/17

midnight sun! -- "Mountains of the Moon" as classical -- what a tremendous, inspired answer. Have you ever seen the video from "Playboy After Dark?" (I'm going to put this up as new post as well.....oh, man, the keyboards sparkle from the heavens....

hey now - I think any Jam-Band music would have to be a sequence of songs, like a cookin' Scarlet - Fire transition jam, or the great Playin-Uncle-Dew-Uncle-Playin from the Cow Palace, in 1974. Lazy Lightning-Supplication, 1977-era.

classical and jazz fans should love the "suite" they perfected on the fillmore 69' release Dark Star-St. Stephen-The Eleven. Also Estimated-Eyes can be very jazzy.
