Lossless downloads |
It seems like the lossless download links on the shows are becoming fewer and fewer. I see the individual songs in lossless format, but not the link to download the entire show. Please help.

How exactly do i get it to download all the flac files with "downthemall"? I have that and firefox and im on a mac, but can only get it to download one at a time. Thanks.

Go to page with show of interest. Click on tools, then start DownThemAll. Once you're in the main Downthemall window, you'll see a listing of every type of file there is to possibly download in this window. You can scroll down and see them all (they'll be a lot!). Next to each file name to the left is a button you can select or unselect. Go through and select only the FLAC/SHN files of interest. Then hit START. You'll now go to a window where you see it downloading each of these files (along with progress of download, etc.)
And there is even a better way once you master this. You can create custom filters. For example, i have a filter for ".flac" and one for "vbr.mp3". Once I start downthemall, I simply select my filter, and downthemall automatically selects the files of interest. Then I hit START and it's off.

So.. I want to DTA only the flac files, but all of the music files have .flac in their name ex. tlg2006-06-24.onstage.flac16/tlg2006-06-24d1t15_vbr.mp3
So how do I get the filter to only pick up the flac files?

Yep, I've had this problem and haven't seen a way to solve it yet. Perhaps others have an idea. For now, on shows where I see "flac" in the file name itself, I have to simply click the buttons next to each file I want before starting DTA.

Extensions> DownThemAll> Options> Filters> you will see a place to make a filter. I'm not at the PC where I have it or I wold post an example string for (flac, md5, txt).

DTA - DownThemAll extension for FireFox. Re the filter, I too create my own filters (flac, vbr.mp3, etc.) But so far, when I use ".flac" as a filter it doesn't distinquish between flac as the file extension or flac anywhere in the file name. I've experimented with the "reg. ext." option (regular extension) in the filter setup but this doesn't seem to help.

(Replying quite some time later, just so that this information is all in one place.)
That's "Reg. Ex.", which stands for
regular expression, a powerful syntax for matching patterns in text.
Here's what I use for the LMA: /(\.(flac|shn|txt|ffp|md5))$/
The dollar sign ($) is a magic character that means "match only to the end of the text". So, this only matches links that have "flac" or "shn" or "txt" or "ffp" or "md5" at the end.

Aha! Thanks so much. I use the DTA interface frequently and have struggled to do exactly what you have now laid out so clearly! It is that look only if at the end of file issue (the $) that I had never figured out.

Thanks, this is great. I didnt even know you could do this. I just removed safari from the desktop and replaced it with Firefox. Its is so easy.Thanks for the help.

Something else you may find useful. In DownthemAll, select preferences. Then click on PRIVACY. On this screen make sure that of the 3 options under "on progress window disclosure" at the top, only "remove completed downloads from list" is checked. Leave the 2nd and 3rd item unchecked.
Here's why. I may go to 10 different shows, and on each one start downthemall and add the files to the download que. (yes, each time you do this, the que just gets longer, all within the same downthemall window.) It may turn out that I need to get off the computer before everything has downloaded. No problem: Just highight all the remaining files, then right click and select "Pause". You can then turn your computer off, etc. The next time you go to Firefox and start Downthemall, all those files that were paused are still listed. You simply highlight them all, right click, and select "resume". It starts where you left off. I find this very useful.
p.s. For some reason when you go back to downthemall and hit start it doesn't automatically start with the remaining que of items. You have to select at least one new file then hit start to make it resume. I usually just select some small html file off the page I'm on, then hit start. It does download this file too, but I later just delete this random file.

We were short on hard drive space back in May. Eliminating those huge zip files was the quickest way to free up room. Hopefully someday the organization will be able to bring that back.

I highly recommend using the browser "firefox" and the extension "downthemall". This simple (free) combination allows you to download whole shows of lossless songs with one click. I began using this even when I had the zip file alternative. Easier and faster in most cases.

I second the "downthemall" extension. great invention. makes getting a group of files from a page super easy.
