An easy way to check is: post something and note the time it says on the post. Compare that to your local time, and subtract. For example, I'm posting this at approx. 4:48 pm, Pacific Daylight Time. The timestamp says 11:48 pm. So that's seven hours later. Later = east, so it's seven time zones east. I know that it's three time zones to the east coast of the US. Four more to cross the Atlantic sounds about right, so, without any further checking, I'm pretty sure that that the timestamp is GMT.

Five'll getcha ten that you're not using EST right now--you're using EDT. And that's probably why you think the Archive isn't using GMT--because you're trying to convert from EST instead of EDT.

Anyway, PST/PDT rules, EST/EDT drools! :p ;)

If "Coordinated Universal Time" (aka GMT) is "somewhere 'out there'", then I suppose you're right. But I think GMT is the only sensible thing to use for an internationally-accessible server (at least, if you're not going to go to all the extra work necessary to allow users to display their individual local timezones). Too many people in the US seem to think the world begins and ends at the borders of the US. I think it's good for 'em to give 'em a glimpse of a timezone outside the boundaries of their little world. :)

what are you trying to say man?? - THE WORLD DOES BEGIN AND END IN THE EASTERN US TIME ZONE!!!! (doesn't it ????) :)

agreed that what you said makes sense though (please insert reluctant tone) - lol
