6335837 bytes ~= 6188 kilobytes

Is this the type of discrepency?

i.e. 6188*1024 = 6336512 bytes

For example, on my local machine one of the tracks I just downloaded is 50,190KB, but the copy on the server lists 49.0MB.

The math checks out per yours above (50,190 / 1024 = 49.01), so yes, that appears to be the difference. Thanks Brak.
