I could use some help testing a new feature in FreeCache. I implemented HTTP range requests to enable partial downloads. That means if your 800 MB download of a show stops after 600 MB, you don't have to start over, but can simply resume downloading the remaining 200 MB. I stuck to the HTTP 1.1. specs, but it seems not all browsers and download managers do. If they are correct they are all correct in same way; but if they are broken they are all broken in their own different way (to paraphrase Tolstoy). So, I need your help testing this in two ways: First, do what you normally do to download shows, and I will see in my logs how your browser talks to FreeCache. Second, if it doesn't work for you, I might not be able to tell from my end. In that case please post a message in this thread or the FreeCache forum and tell us what happened. Please include the name and version of your browser or download manager. BTW, these partial downloads only work once the show or file is in the FreeCache system. You can tell if a file is coming from a FreeCache by looking at URL while it is downloading. They usually start with freecache as oppossed to etree. Also, if you go to our Detailed Status page, you can see which files are stored on which FreeCache. Thanks for your help, Ralf

I am sorry my freecache did not resume after I canceled the show in mid-download. I right clicked the sci2001-08-01dsbd shnf.zip via freecache, I used the "Save as Target" option. Then I let it download for about 15 minutes. I canceled, then re-connected and the sci2001-08-01dsbd shnf.zip via freecache. The show re-started from the beginning. an FYI I download through Internet explorer . I hope you good folks find the way to make resuming a download possible. It sounds great !!! Thank you for everything .

I know that "Internet Explorer" will not resume any d/l, so that isn't a good test. You need to use a d/l manager ie. Getright, Gozilla etc...

That's what I first thought too, but quoting Ralf:

So, maybe he's working on enabling that. Also, Pookie's post should be in the Freecache forum. Ralf probably checks up in there more than here. If you have comments, please drop them over there so he sees them quicker.

Thanks, Brad. I check this forum, too.
I've seen Internet Explorer 5 and 6 resuming. And I can force it to resume in the way Jon describes below.

What I am fuzzy on is under which circumstances IE does that. It might depend on sub-versions (there are a gazillion for IE), OS, configuration options, etc. This is why your testing comes in handy.

I've gotten it to resume, not sure what version of IE you're using. If I download something, hit cancel, then click it again, it picks up where I left off.
