Okay, in the spirit of the "days" in San Fran, I am hereby naming this experinment the Grateful Dead "Grok-In". If you don't know what grok means, well, someone will help you out I'm sure. Maybe Mr. Spock!
So far the voting is as follows -
1985 - 2 votes (JodyC and Direwolf)
1979 - 2 votes (robwordsmith and deadmax)

1969 - 4 votes (myself, cush, highflow and Arbitnot)

So, so far, 1969 is winning. 12/30/69 is awfully special folks, go look at the setlist.

cheers,
Dr. Flashback

Does everyone know what I will vote for? Does anyone care? Don't answer that... 1969, please. I am disabled, I had cancer this year, I got my feelings hurt (well, okay, I over-reacted...but the cancer thing usually cuts some ice). Actually, every post my period show (>71) that you guys have said was great, has been, so though I vote for 69, anyone of these will be fine...I am sure. Forgot this stuff, FYI: "Tom Wolfe, in his book The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, describes a character's thoughts during an acid trip: "He looks down, two bare legs, a torso rising up at him and like he is just noticing them for the first time... he has never seen any of this flesh before, this stranger. He groks over that...." Hippie guru Ram Dass, in Be Here Now, quotes a large passage from Stranger about the word. The word is also used in passing in The Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea. According to Ed Sanders' book The Family, convicted murderer Charles Manson was a fan of Heinlein and Stranger and adopted many of the terms associated with both including "grok" and "thou art God"."

I'll take '69 Doc. Awesome setlist!

I will be listening at 8:30 AM on New Years Eve at the Art of Living Foundation's International Center in Bangalore, India.

I'm a bit partial to '79 since that's the year I got on the bus and 12/30/79 IS a relly nice show. But '69 does had a really nice set list (can't go wrong with a Mason's Children, IMO). Looks like a nice long barn burner too.

One more for 1969.

I don't think I have ever heard any of these shows.

One more vote for 12-30-69

Thanks dr. f! It's already happening, I woke up thinking that I should check the threads and tally up the votes... And also while doing my spring cleaning yesterday I found a shoe under my bed that was missing so long I threw the other one away. Have one left size 11, will by or sell! I like the Grok-In concept. It's been many years since I read " Stranger in a Strange Land" I'll have to break out the old Websters and refresh my fuzzy memory.

I did see a couple posts regarding voting. 12/30 is still 4 weeks off. I don't see any great hurry to close it yet... Again thanks to all! And good morning to all! It looks like a beautiful day here in AZ, the birdbath didn't even freeze this morning!!!

Was leaning towards '69 till I took a listen. Sound quality a bit too muddy. Very unique Scarlet> Fire in '79 so I'll toss my vote for '79.

I've gotta change my vote due to the sound quality an imcompletness of the '69 show. (Thanks BlueMtnMan!)

Put me down for '79. I guess I shudda stuck to my partial thinking to begin with!

You're welcome. Not trying to change anyones vote but... the '69 is an incomplete show and has a couple of significant chops. Ya know, just when you're laying back goin down the road.

I agree, quality first and foremost! What looks great on paper isn't always the best coming out the speakers.

I'm sticking wirh '69 for now, not by any means cast in stone though. I'll try to give it a listen ASAP.

My choice for the Grok-In will have to be 1985. The reason is that I am celebrating 21 years of being clean and sober on the 30th.

This would be my sentimental favorite, but any show is better than no show.

Live long and Prosper.

In Cliffs opinion, anything post 1977 is "Grok-free"!
