An old-style propaganda film with out-dated war footage combined with updated propaganda animation elements. The film is set to a remix of the Modeste P. Moussorsky song "A Night on Bald Mountain". This film explores the ideas of mass mis-information campaigns, governmental scare tactics and oudated war tactics in the 21st century.

interesting effects but too vague. looked like more just an 'exersize in goofing off' then wanting to make something real with substance and meaning.

This made me laugh out loud! The bit with Braitan's smiley face vs the the "no France" sign was killer.
Although the film may not be professional grade, it is watchable because of it's intellegent use of imagery in the intentional absence of dialogue. The film takes old footage that is obviously from 40's US propaganda films like Capra's "Why We Fight", which really work efectively when the cause is as just and noble as saving Europe and Asia from invading fascists, and puts them in the context of the Iraq war, which has, shall we say, a much less substantial foundation in morals or for that matter logic.
The effect is very amusing; the juxtaposition makes the sad and ridiculous spectacle of the Iraq war something at least worth laughing over.

I think the embarassment lies in the fact, that it is possible to make a connection. But it is actually embarassing for the subject, not for the film.

Subject: Once again...
Once again, America is compared to the Nazis. A "Fourth Reich" hiding behind a Democratic facade.
Once again, the U.S. Government is this massive lie factory - hard at work.
Once again, America is the great evil, enforcing its will on the weak with impunity.
Once again, another "film-maker" inflicts his political opinion on us with no attempt at originality.
Marback talks a lot in this "film" but says very little. And when he *does* manage to say something, its something we've all heard before. This "film" is a copy of a copy of a copy... ad-nauseum.
Once again, another "film-maker" points his finger at the establishment (albeit the middle finger) and "calls it like he sees it".
Sorry to be the one to have to tell you this, Marback, but you're at the back of a *very* long line.

Subject: Idiosyncracy prevails in Scar Strangled Banner
Subject: Idiosyncracy prevails in Scar Strangled Banner
From Mr. Marback's compilation of various historical sources, we might suppose we know Mr. Marback's opinion of some interconnection between what they depict. We can learn very little about the real world outside Mr. Marback's head from Mr. Marback's compilation, though. The work is fundamentally idiosyncratic - any meaning to be derived from it must stem from being familiar with assorted themes presented in other expositions that this presentation is somewhat evocative of.
But Mr. Marback's work is not totally meaningless. It's the kind of work that reminds one of the campaign speech someone was claimed to have made in which he accussed his opponent of being an admited "homo sapien", of having been known to have "matriculated" at a certain university, etc etc. For those who just let the familiar evocative sounds of homo sapien remind them of homo sexuals and matriculators remind them of masturbators, some visceral influence might be attained against their better (but sleeping) judgment.

I would say that Marback thinks his case too noble and self-evident to state...if I thought he had the skill to edit a filmic case coherently. His heart's in the right place, but this crushingly dull exercise in juxtaposing CNN footage with hallowe'en party favours shows only the most naive understanding of world affairs. Yes, there has been and continues to be an incredible amount of lying, and yes, this lying was responsible for unconscionable deaths, but geometrical coincidences set to classical music are no advance on this.

This film is absolutely fabulous. The way the edits follow the music is virtuosic. Most people seem to misunderstand the film however. This film is clearly designated as using 'out-dated' footage. The intricate animations that Mr. Marback made were perfectly fitting and very effective in this 'out-dated' footage.

Okay, so someone knows how to *badly* edit video footage. 'Oooh...I think I'll superimpose images on top of other images...wow, that will be really neato!' That, aesthetically speaking, has got to be the worst film I have ever seen. And that's saying something.

This movie was a very strong pro-Bush picture, but it isn't pro-Bush enough for my liking. The movie did show some of his finer aspects, like his brilliant planning of the naval assult on Iraq and the great job he did getting his message of peace across the world, but Bush has done so much more. I suggest making another film chronichling Bush's brave and heroic service in "Champagne Unit" of the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War. God bless Bush and God bless you Brandon Marback.

Some nice editing techniques, but what's the point? Superimposing a scary skull over Bush's face certainly won't change anyone's minds. And I'm speaking from the far left end of the political spectrum here. Yeah, the Pentagon is conveniently similar to a pentagram. What does that prove? Sorry, I'm trying to give constructive criticism here, because we really do need more people speaking out about this horrible administration. I just don't think countering propaganda with opposing propaganda is the way to go. Just my two cents, take it or leave it.

This short does an excellent job of depicting the United States' involvement with the world over the last year and a half, starting with footage of the kindling spark: September 11th.
The creator's assumption that the fusion of the regalia of the National Socialist party with Icons of the United States Government, as well as the use of WWII stock footage, effectively recreating a "Modern" propaganda film depicting the U.S.A. as the enemy, would be noticed by any and all viewers might have been their only mistake.
I hope that this film would inspire all who watch it first into a form of speachless shock for realization of our transgressions as a country (With clear parallels to an other government that western civilization holds to be the worst in our history) directly into a thoughtful and educated citizen capable of creating change and lastly into a person in a voting booth in November.

This movie is a bit arty and for my taste. It has images of skeletons and war. Yet it makes so clear points. America = Bad could be summed up as the plot, but you would never guess precisely why.
