Author's comments:
First, I would like to thank sdkess, because it was his 11:09 run on SDA a whlie back that actually inspired me to go for a 96 exit speed run. I would also like to thank Radix, because without him egging me on, I probably would have given up on this run a long time ago. Thanks to Nate for capturing this run. Finally, I want to thank smilingjack13, for always keeping me motivated to go for better.
This run is the result of a few hundred attempts over the span of about four months. When I first started, I had no experience in speed running Super Mario World, so it took a long time to figure out the best strategies for each level and even longer to practice each level for consistency. I thought that coming up with the best route would require some major thinking, but the basic route actually came to me pretty quickly. I ended up revising it slightly, and I think it is just about optimized now. One area of debate was Chocolate Island. I wasn't sure if it would be faster to take care of Choco Secret Area right after Chocolate Island 2, or if I should play until Wendy's Castle and backtrack to Choco Secret Area. I timed both of these out, and the results were practically identical- the route I took in the video was faster by .2 seconds. My original goal was to get a time below 1:40:00, so as you can see I've gone well beyond that. I don't think a sub 1:30 run is possible, at least by a human player. I made some sloppy mistakes in this run and got hit a bit more than I usually do, but this was the only time I was ever able to make it through the game without dying. I've had some perfect runs that ended very late in the game... Forest of Illusion 2 killed more runs than probably any other level, and I think you'll see why. Anyway, I hope you enjoy watching this run as I worked very hard for it. I don't think I'll ever play SMW again, let alone try to improve this. Feel free to email me with any questions or comments you might have.

Cool vid but.. why Cinepac? That's a terrible codec to use. Sure, it gives good quality, but horrible size. Use something like VP70, H264, or DivX.
3.1 Gb for 1:37:14 is pretty bad.
And aside from codecs and quality... it's good but you need to embrace the hopping glitch.
If this wasn't a tas (just realizing that I can't find tas tagged anywhere here), then GJ
Also to the guy who said flying is gay: flying is faster for speedruns, suck a fat one

amazing job... I know this game like the back of my hand. I could never do it without messn up like that... In the Forest ghost house... once u get in the room with the high seiling and two question mark boxes, you can jump on the ledge on the left, run just enough so you can fly and go left. you will fly over the wall and end up at the end of the level. You have to do this twice so it mite cut your time off by a good amount

I sat down and watched most of the run and I was really impressed. You are very skilled at this game and I was also impressed by the video quality. The high quality was too big so I downloaded the normal file and I was amazed with the quality and the bit rate. A job well done!
