Speed run of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snaker Eater on Extreme mode in six segments, achieving Fox Hound rank, done on January 3 2005. Quality note: unfortunatly, due to NTSC game being recorded onto a PAL-50 VCR, the resulting capture is only black & white.

Ok, so the idea behind this video was to get the Foxhound rank in as low a time as possible, which basically means playing on Extreme and getting 0 kills, continues and alerts, and doing it sort of quickly. I think it's a pretty good run, but far from perfect, naturally. There are faster routes for many of the areas, which I found out about after finishing the run, and there is of course always room for improvement on the boss battles. I'm convinced that a time below 1:40:00 is possible.
Anyway, I should probably explain some of the things I do in the video that might seem strange, so here we go:
After the plane explodes at the beginning of Operation Snake Eater, I go south one area and then back again. This is to cancel out the caution status that will appear otherwise. Since this ensures that I don't have to deal with the guards coming out of Dolinovodno, I'm pretty sure it's faster.
The reason I use the Bug Spray before swimming through Chornyj Prud is to avoid the leech that always gets you otherwise. Leeches count as injuries, so by using the spray, I'm able to get the Seriously Injured stat down to 0, which is nice. Plus, it doesn't really waste any time, because I'd have to enter the menu to remove the leech afterwards anyway.
And, of course, there's the famous skipping of The End. In case you don't know how that works, it's like this: You save right when you get to The End, and then you load up the save a week or so later, and he will have died of old age. Pretty handy, and saves a good amount of time.
In the mountains, I enter one of those little shelters and pick up the RPG-7, which might seem weird, since you get it when you need it anyway. The reason I do that is because I can then equip it after the waterfall scene instead of right before the Shagohod fight, which means I don't have to enter that menu an extra time. Not sure how much time this actually saves, but after coming up with all that I couldn't just go back to doing it the simple way, now could I?
During the torture sequence, I hold L2. This prevents any damage from Volgin's blows. This is good for getting 0 bars of damage in the end. Unfortunately, I got 1 anyway, thanks to a couple of sloppy boss battles.
I think that's all. Also, be sure to note the delicately crafted little details that I added for humour, like me falling into the water, or calling the wrong radio frequency (twice). Wacky fun...
