From Wikipedia:

The title of the album is a palindrome created by cover artist Rick Griffin and lyricist Robert Hunter. According to the audio version of the Rock Scully memoir, Living with the Dead (read by the author and former Dead co-manager himself), the title is pronounced "OX-OH-MOX-OH-AH".

So there you go!

Saw an interview quite some time ago & Griffin pronounced it A-OXO-MOX-O-A ...long "A" sound in the beginning & short "A" sound @ the end. Personally I'd go with Griffin's pronunciation before Scully's, but that's just me.

Have to admit I always said it the Griffin way myself. Never had any confirmation until now that it was the right way. Thanks, Trip!

Until I heard him say it, I'd always said it as oxo-moxa.

I asked one of my English teachers once in high school and he said the Xs would have a Z sound..

I never really thought about it much

It's in Wikipedia? It must be true! I'm glad you found it because when I entered the word at dictionary.com, it linked me to a page that said, "You've got to be fuckin' kidding me."

How was France? Do the ladies still like to dance?

I was a free man in Paris I felt unfettered and alive...
And yes, they do kiss on Main Street.

Am I right in thinking there was little weirdness in the forum while I was gone? A little unpleasantness perhaps? Am I also right in thinking that this is what passes for normal around here these days? And has there been a mass exodus to Deadhook?

Anyway, good to see you, Bryan and good to be back.

As it is spelled:

Ao==a sliding a-o xo= gzo mox o-ah.

Didn't they teach you anything at school?

Hey, bet you didn't know it read the same way backwards!!!!

They taught me plenty, but everything I ever really needed to know, I learned in kindergarten. The album wasn't released until after I was getting ready to matriculate into fourth grade, so the material was never covered.

Hey Bill - Everything blooming in the greenhouses? I'll try to get the mp3s organised and in the mail in the next couple of days - just have to get some tedious workstuff sorted out. (There should be legislation to prevent work piling up while you're off having fun...)

Rob--it's freaking 100 degrees daily which is not fit for man nor beast nor plant. Sorry about the work thing. Sucks, huh?

As to Deadhook. Yes, there has been a sort of an exodus. 1) The vibes there (and the mods) preclude the sort of bullshit that has regulated things here. 2) It's a fun place, new folks to meet, new avenues to explore--all sorts of stuff.

Of course some things never change: Tell and his friggin' 68 pile of crap (oh--wait--that's one of my favorite years!). And yes, William, we will educate those yahoos you and I.

Bryan: I agree: you learn all you need to know in kg.

Good to have you.

I don't think there was any more weirdness than usual, other than the fact that you were absent, and that was REALLY strange, man!

There is a significant contingent jumping ship. Actually they're straddling allegiancies at this point. I've been recruited to haul my own sorry ass over there to join in the festivities. Must be a shortage of reprobates. Ready to sign up, robbie?

I think I'll stay aboard this leaky old boat for a while. I had a look at Deadhook and it just doesn't look like my sort of place at all. There's no reply hierarchy like you get here, so it's harder to follow a conversation. In fact, there don't seen to be any conversations there. There are too damn many daft pictures, smileys and signatures getting in the way of the words, which I find irksome. And it just seems too *nice* for my liking - I actually like a bit of grit now and then.

So how about you? You going to abandon SS Llama and head for sunnier shores?

Rob & Bryan you are both invited to come over and check out deadhook. same as you have been discussing 'them', they have been discussing 'you'. :)

yes...it's a very 'nice' place with smilies, and pictures and fun things to play with! but there are also really cool people there behind the colors and signatures. same way there are really cool people here behind the little screen names.

you don't have to come over. I understand if you'd rather not. I have no plans of leaving LMA for good, so I'll get to still send you both out hugs every now and then! :)

Gina your invitation is a very kind and generous one, but I'll respectfully decline it.

I guess I'm just more comfortable with the potential for anarchy here and the 'clean' look of the words only format. So I'll stay at home in the LMA - but it will always be nice to welcome visitors!

You hit the nails on head, Rob...just don't let Dancin know I agree with you.

I lurked here, signed up, and it was as easy as could be...though I have had help, etc., I still flounder about 'over there,' and most of all, miss the 'post-reply' dialogue you speak of...just as an example, I must have posted a dozen times there yesterday, and in essence, though I had a couple of direct comments, it was not transparent. As Bryan can attest, we dumb bastards need immediate reinforcement or we lose the thread. Not that I have to be listened to, or responded to each and every time, especially given what I have to say, but it proves your point.

I can be ignored in a much more straight forward fashion hereabouts.

Yes, I recommend that you two take the plunge...Dancin is ready to hold your hands, and I for one, needed every bit of assistance she could muster.

However, this place is simplier, though not kinder and gentler, but I suppose that is what draws us here, in part, eh? The posting arena at Hook is just a bit too dense, so navigation takes more effort...

My cries for 68 rec'd about the same level of interest, so I am not sure I do any better wherever I sell my wares...And with most of us simultaneously posting at both sites it is clear to me that most cannot cut the cord and move lock, stock and barrel to Hook. My guess is it will serve as a diversion in times of Spam2tacking hereabouts, which is a good thing.

Sign up--it's easy; just be sure to keep your identity so I know who to tag with the convenient little "add to ignore list."

See? Now that I can expend my love and kindness there, I can devote myself to trouble making asshole here...Yin and Yang.

There's the rub. As you were charitable enough to point out yesterday, I'm a bastard of the stoopid variety, and all that Byzantine computer protocol induces seizures. But I'm getting a refill on my prescription later today, so maybe I can handle it.
