If you remove or cover the watermark it should be ok to use. Essentially there is no way to claim copyright just by putting a movie on DVD. Companies use watermarks to mark their territory on the DVDs and if you use the film with their logo they can get you for trademark infringement. They only have a copyright on the compilation, order and packaging of their DVDs.
Mill Creek have gotten out of watermarking after much customer complaining. Only their 2006-2007 releases were watermarked. I believe they did it because their packs were becoming a one stop public domain dvd business starter kit for content.
It would be rich for them to have a "problem" with you removing/concealing their watermark. They are well known for reframing movies that were watermarked by other PD distributors (Alpha, etc).
