Forum: general Subject: Root issues -- WARNING: 1st Amendment allowed soapboxing

The root issue is that members cannot delete reviews from their uploads. Further, the reviews file cannot be deleted or modified by the uploader (seen in Edit & Change Files).

I've been told "don't delete and reupload a document as that wastes processing power" but what else can a member do if they're not allowed to delete reviews, or delete the file containing reviews?

It seem to be time to reconsider what rights a member has over their uploads. If I upload something, I should have the right to modify it as I see fit. Otherwise I'll delete it, and reupload it. Obviously, that's assuming my account hasn't be improperly locked, and that's another ongoing issue in need of attention here.

Sorry to soapbox, but it's called The First Amendment. Sorry that's inconvenient here to any admin. Further, as a donor who has even considered adding Archive Org to his will, I'd appreciate not hearing once again, "go elsewhere if you don't like it" from the admin. That's a bit beyond their authority, or should be.

Thanks for listening to an exercise in Free Speech.

Forum: general Subject: Why a review deletion feature for uploaders is not a good idea.

Not a good idea, because it would be misused to delete criticism. It's a problem known from YouTube comment sections.

At most, there should be a "collapse review" feature where item uploaders hide a review so the reader has to click on it to expand it. And the uploader should be able to add a reason, for example "hidden for being spam".

This would hide annoying spam from view but it would not allow deleting criticism.

I've been told "don't delete and reupload a document as that wastes processing power"

Another restriction is that the same URL can not be re-used.

Please post a link to one of your Internet Archive uploads. I would like to demonstrate how a few unpleasant and spam filled "reviews" may make you reconsider your position on review deletion.
If I get time I will also add a review which contains faulty logic and hateful but confused words and blames you for a perceived political bias.

Bet you look for the delete button.

Forum: general Subject: Hiding is a reasonable middle ground

It doesn't change the fact that uploaders can misuse review deletion to remove legitimate criticism.

This is why I said hiding is a reasonable middle ground.

Forum: general Subject: There should be a way to remove reviews from our uploaded content.

Your reply suggest you will not comply with a request to test the presence of an unpleasant or insane "review" on your own uploads. This leads me to believe you are not an actual content provider and have not experienced them.

Thanks for playing.

Forum: general Subject: YouTube comment deletion

I get it, but have you never experienced having your YouTube comment containing legitimate criticism being deleted by the uploader?
