Secret Twins |
I never thought of this before, but King Bee ...
http://www.archive.org/details/gd69-04-06.sbd.fm.cotsman.9492.sbeok.shnf
Is actually the secret twin of Little Red Rooster.
Great show, btw. I am absolutely no good at deciding “which show is best” in a fine run, because I tend to be swayed by the last one I listened to, LOL, so sometimes it comes down to set list. In which case I guess 4/5 takes the cake. But don’t pass up 4/6. Fierce TOO, hypnotizing Death Don’t (supposedly with a tripped-out guy wailing “I don’t want to die” … wow … but I don’t hear that on my copy), and riveting Viola Lee where they get the plug pulled on them at the end and finish it a capella.
Any other secret twins?
I seem to recall that Jerry said that Sailor > Saint was “Weather Report Suite run through the blender.”
I’ve read somewhere that Alabama Getaway can be seen as an “update” of Dupree’s. (Oh dear.)
Also, Bob used to be Luke Skywalker ...
... but now he’s Obi Wan Kenobi.
(My son informed me of this, complete with the images. Can I give him class credit for it?)

— Founder twins —
Brewster Kahle, Digital Librarian and Founder
Brewster Kahle, Digital Librarian and Founder of the Internet Archive, has been working to provide universal access to all knowledge for more than twenty-five years.
Since the mid-1980s, Kahle has focused on developing technologies for information discovery and digital libraries. In 1989 Kahle invented the Internet's first publishing system, WAIS (Wide Area Information Server) system and in 1989, founded WAIS Inc., a pioneering electronic publishing company that was sold to America Online in 1995. In 1996, Kahle founded the Internet Archive which may be the largest digital library. At the same time, he co-founded Alexa Internet which helps catalog the Web in April 1996, which was sold to Amazon.com in 1999.
Kahle earned a B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1982. As a student, he studied artificial intelligence with W. Daniel Hillis and Marvin Minsky. In 1983, Kahle helped start Thinking Machines, a parallel supercomputer maker, serving there as a lead engineer for six years. He serves on the boards of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Public Knowledge, the European Archive, the Television Archive, and the Internet Archive.
Ron Wickersham, Audio Engineer and Founder
Ron Wickersham, Audio Engineer and Founder of Alembic Sound, has been working to provide incredible sound to musicians and audiences for more than forty-five years.
In 1968 Ron Wickersham and Susan Frates met at Pacific Recording Studio where Ron was designing the first multi-track mixing console for use with the studio's new Ampex MM-1000 16-track recording machine. It was the second one in use. The Grateful Dead was recording "AOXOMOXOA". At this time the recording was a side interest for Ron, whose main gig was working at Ampex as a design engineer.
In 1969 Ron left Ampex to devote all of his energies to the new field of multi-track recording. After working at Pacific Recording for 6 more months, he decided to leave Pacific Recording to form Alembic and work with The Grateful Dead who had a larger than average interest in improving the quality of their sound. Together they had plans for improving the quality of the final product, the record.

At first glance, I thought the guy wearing the suit in the background of the bottom picture was LBJ. LOL
Maybe that was why he didn't run in '68. It was cutting too much into his acid test time!!

Re: Secret Twins |
haha, this has got to be the most hilarious thread i've seen on here since islam_sucks! thanks AR, i would have never put the Mickey/Spock connection together if it weren't for this...lol!
as far as the show, i haven't really given it as much attention as the previous night. it's a great one though. lots of off the chain energy, more so than 4/5 i think. TOO is an absolute monster version, no doubt about that.
over all i don't find this Avalon run quite as exciting as the Ark run (4/21-23). those are a few of my '69 dream shows :)

I'm sure I've seen somewhere a photo of Bill Gates that looked quite a lot like Phil - perhaps he is Phil, has anyone seen them together ?
