In July 1956, the five-member Barstow family of Wethersfield, Connecticut, won a free trip to newly-opened Disneyland in Anaheim, California, in a nationwide contest. This 30-minute amateur documentary film tells the fabulous story of their fun-filled, dream-come-true, family travel adventure, filmed on the scene at Walt Disney's "Magic Kingdom" by Robbins Barstow. In December 2008, "Disneyland Dream" was named to the National Film Registry by the Librarian of Congress.

In the summer of 1978, Robbins Barstow and his wife Meg, of Wethersfield, Connecticut, USA, took a four-week East African Safari Tour to Tanzania and Kenya, sponsored by the New York Zoological Society. This African wildlife adventure film includes scenes of 53 different species of animals and birds, filmed in the wild, among them Elephant, Giraffe, Rhino, Hippo, Lion, Leopard, Zebra, Wildebeest, Cheetah, and Impala.

In 1975, Connecticut made the sperm whale its official state animal, as a symbol of conservation. The following year, a group of volunteers from the Connecticut Cetacean Society spent over 5,000 hours building a life-size, 60-foot, ferro-cement model of a male sperm whale, on the grounds of the Children's Museum in West Hartford, Connecticut, USA. Director of the project was Robbins Barstow, who filmed this dramatic, home-made documentary.

Named to the National Film Registry in 2007, "Our Day" is a day-in-the-life portrait of the Kelly family of Lebanon, Kentucky. Wallace Kelly's amateur cast was made up of his mother, wife, brother, and pet terrier. The film documents a modern home inhabited by adults with sophisticated interests and simple ones. Kelly, a newspaperman, was also an accomplished photographer, painter, and writer. He began shooting film in 1929 and continued until the 1950s.
