[audio]Complex Silence 3 [tmth062] - JMMIII
The third entry to the "Complex Silence" series comes courtesy of JMMIII (aka Jon 7). This time complex silence is formed out a field recording made on bicycle while touring around the industrail areas of west Eugene, where JMMIII lives. On any given day, metal fabrication shops and lumber mills can be heard dancing their menacing mechanical ballet, which is as much a joy to watch as to listen to. "Lumbering Drone" takes the sounds of this environment, and through lengthening and processing, cre...

[audio]Complex Silence 2 [tmth05A] - Tange
With Complex Silence 2, Time Theory and Tange continue the Series with a truly beautiful set of long-form tracks that explore farther into the realms of enigmatic and abstract ambience. This contribution by Tange is a perfectly suited voyage into harmonic and dissonant mystery with a sublime mix of Tibetan bowls (Part 1) and Buddha Machine samples (Part 2). And, of course, both tracks feature the Tange trademark drones and washes that transport the listener into deeply satisfying layers of pure ...

[audio]Disambiguation [tmth004] - Rose Red/Upheaval
Rose Red and Upheaval, the husband and wife duo that comprise Turmoil, as well as running the Amduscias Records netlabel, make their Timetheory debut with this split release, "Disambiguation". Never ones to shy away from dark and disturbing themes, they have provided 3 tracks each that reflect their respective influences and life experiences. Rose Red's tracks "Sinking" (featured on the "We Are Timetheory" artist compilation), "Shock Therapy" and "Neurotic Inner Self" use gentler dark ambient so...

[audio]Crystal Field Theory [tmth00F] - JMMIII
Jon 7, once again thinly veiled by his initials (JMMIII) was turning to Wikipedia and the periodic table for inspiration when he stumbled across an entry on crystal field theory, and the lightbulb switched on. The tracks reflect an attempt to think molecularly, and though no actually understanding of crystal field theory can be claimed, the tracks still convey a pretty good sense of what the view might be like on an atomic level...

[audio]Inauguration [tmth-010] - President Blair
This second Time Theory release from President Blair explores his style of noise in a different manner than usual. the sounds on this release are (untypically for music in the noise genre) entirely digital in source and construction. No tapes were harmed in the making of this recording. It was however recorded in one take using a variety of small apps running at once. Future PB recordings wil likely oscillate between this digital style and the previous lo-fidelity tape-manipulated style.

[audio]Zeno Effect [tmth065] - Fosel
Our latest new artist, Fosel, lives and records his music in the southwestern desert of new Mexico. His second release for Time Theory is this one, "Zeno Effect". Another release heavy on the science, "Zeno Effect"'s three long, droning tracks explore the the sounds that could accompany the realm of particle physics. You may be able to listen to these tracks, but it can be proved that you will never finish them...

[audio]Time Distortion [tmth-00E] - Terra Engine
"Time Distortion" collection of subtle and radical remixes of material from Jon 7's "Time" album (http://www.archive.org/details/tmth013). All tracks were utilized in one form or another, except for the closing track "Newfoundland time". Due to the nature of the recordings (which often feature intricate and subtle elements) and low bass frequencies, optimal results can be achieved by downloading the songs (rather than listening to them through the player) and wearing headphones...

The second full-length album from Terra Engine, this album is a powerful expansion of the themes initially explored in "Power Ambience" (released through Amduscias Records -- http://www.archive.org/details/AMR112). Featuring the almost overwhelming electro-drone now known as 'power ambience', the music also ventures deep into the realm of experimental industrial soundscapes, harrowing dark ambient passages, menacing bass pulsations and avant-garde electronica...

[audio]KemoKlen [tmth060] - KemoKlen
Enter into a space of dark, almost magickal ambient with this release by Joel Kinsberger aka KemoKlen. These three long dark tracks will no doubt take you through a journey the feels like it smells of ritual. The tracks titles are evocative of some kind of ritualistic process. It is possible they may mean nothing of the sort, but as they progress one can almost smell the burning of dripping wax and fat, a torch led down a long hallway, the dim illumination of an ancient darkened and windswept pl...

[audio]Complex Silence 4 [tmth06A] - mysterybear
For Complex Silence 4, mysterybear (Dave Seidel) provides a decidedly abstract, yet sublime exploration of the Golden Ratio with two long-form tracks. He describes the creative process: "Both tracks use intervals and waveforms derived from the Golden Ratio. I usually compose in just intonation, which is based on rational numbers (whole number ratios). The golden ratio, by contrast, is an irrational number...

Some time ago, artist K.M. Artists were encouraged to rework and manipulate these tracks in different ways, to loop and listen in various combinations. [audio]Right/Wrong [tmth05B] - Julien Skrobek
"Right/Wrong" is a suite of compositions continuing the musique concrete style we have come to enjoy and expect from Parisian teacher Julien Skrobek. The same kind of slowly developing sound as we heard in "Plage Concrete" is in evidence here, but there is more development, more eventfulness present in these tracks. As usual, patience is required to get the full understanding of thr role each sound plays in each scene, but it's patience that is very well rewarded...

[audio]Gammatria [tmth064] - John Mason
John Mason is, as you might expect, a close relative of Jon 7 and JMMIII. Jon 7 has a contentious colleague (interactions with whom he still values highly) who had offered him a release of "Guitar Music" for Time Theory. The offer was rescinded though due to Jon 7's failure to respond immediately. "Guitar Music" was instead offered to a Dutch label, and promptly was never brought up again (though it may have done well where it landed...

[audio]Glass Tainted Stain [tmth067] - Controlled Dissonance
Light, ever the symbol of that which is good and wholesome; purveying, with stalwart benevolence, a sense of comfort, familiarity and serenity, twists upon itself revealing unforeseen depths of perversion and depravity when filtered through the tainted stain of glass. Controlled Dissonance is John Ingram (the musician, not to be confused with the Jesuit martyr or the CEO of Ingram Industries), and the moniker aptly describes the musical approach of “Glass Tainted Stain”...

[audio]Holy Mountain [tmth-00D] - JMMIII
"Holy Mountain" is the second part of three releases of remixed versions of the "Time" album by Jon 7. On this release, the track "Mountain Time" has been stretched and reworked by JMMIII (whoever he is). The sharp angular sounds and buzzes have been softened and rounded and many of the smaller shorter sounds have been given more room on the stage. "Time" [tmth013] has been one the most weel liked releases on Timetheory...

[audio]Tres [tmth05E] - Fosel
"Tres", the Time Theory debut from Fosel, is a remarkable piece of work, especially for those who appreciate the albums by Restive on TT. Ostentibly ambient, the tracks on "Tres" have a sparkling crystalline quality, but also incorporate deep rumbles and disquieting elements that never let the listener relax entirely. It's an effective combination of the sort Time Theory thrives on. Other albums from Fosel are available on Time Theory and other netlabels...

SCP is one of the many projects created by Ben Kelly (aka Instant, who released music on the Jon7.net Microlabel) and "Rated MPG" is a short taster for what will hopefully be more releases on Timetheory. Ben's sound is often raucous and anarchistic, and this release highlights that style. [audio]The Vindictive Patent Vol. 1 [tmth05F] - Golgotha Communications Ltd
Golgotha Communications Ltd reported to TTHQ that they had been remastering old material and wanted for it to see the light of day. As they described it, these tracks are some of the only survivors of an extensive period of recording. As usual, the evocative titles tell a story of times and places both existent and non-existent. After some contact on Myspace, we were pleased to find the music of Restive amenable to being rereleased on Timetheory, and of his many sonic space journals, #14 was selected to be presented here. With a wink and a chuckle, Carpenter John (a moniker based on Jon 7's occasional profession) presents a gentle in-joke amongst his netlabel friends. Despite its play on words, "Variable" is a nice piece of music in its own right. The emphasis is more ambient pads, and there's a clean, open sound to it, and while it floats long like a drone piece there are evolving melodies throughout it. Each track on "Time" was inspired by a time zone on the North American continent, and the mood of each piece tries in some way to capture some quality, real or imagined, of the geographical areas in each zone. [audio]Alternate Universes [tmth00E] - JMMIII
"Alternate Universes" a fairly short and simple release, is a collection of experiemnts in the use of fractal images as source for bitmap to wave file conversion. There was something about these particular fractal images though, that generated some interesting subtleties in the resulting sound files, which gave them a sound one might associate with jets of gas streaming through space. It's simple space music, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Ruins Winter is an noise project from Argentina, but "Burning Flame" is not your average noise. Instead of the merely brutish scraping noise that exists, this noise is more like volcanic eruption, crossed signals and waveform disruption. It's a very nice listen, something just barely controlled about it's other wise careening feedback and tones. Kronofage (derived from "chronophage", a time-eater) is a one-off project by Jon 7 that explores the effects of phasic relations between waveforms. Many of Jon 7's ideas come from things seen in dreams, and "Towers" is a prime example. In the dream this album's concept came from, Jon 7 was walking through an old house where he found a large map indicating the presence of two large towers, towers that didn't actually exist but were indicative of two equipment set-ups that were referred to as the 'blue tower' and the 'red tower'. "Drocht" is the first of the trilogy of deconstructions of Jon 7's "Time" album being released in the TT negative integer albums. Zieltogend's stock-in-trade is taking tracks, stripping them to their barest elements and recreating them in a stark and minimal fashion, what some might call "dark drift".
