	Flax in bloom, The Millstone, The Dairymaid - Paddy Cronin Fiddle solo, H. German - piano, Copley 9-116. Paddy recreates two of James Morrison's medleys on this 78, the reverse of this side is Rakish Paddy/The Wheels of the World. The Millstone is also called the College Groves or the New Desmne. The Dairymaid was recorded on a radio disc by Michael Coleman as Rockaway Bound, a very American title for this tune. Seamus Ennis learned the first tune from Cronin's teacher Padraig O'Keefe, and Seamus gave it the title O'Keefe's Plough. The second reel seems like a fiddle tune that passed through the hands of a flautist or piper, the melody has a drive to go beneath middle D but instead plays notes in the upper range of the first octave. 	Cherish the Ladies - Paddy Killoran Fiddle solo, unknown - piano, Decca 12220. This was Paddy's last 78 of the 30s; he would release a few more in the late 40s/early 50s, some of which were compiled onto an LP, Memories of Ireland. Coleman also recorded this big version of the tune, as did piper Tom Ennis (whose recording is available on this site). 	Down the Broom, The Gatehouse Maid - Paddy Killoran Fiddle solo, unknown - piano, Decca 12145. A medley which is occasionally recreated by Killoran fans. Paddy's wife was from Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare, and the well-known fiddler Junior Crehan remembered Paddy playing these reels on visits to his wife's hometown, they being great favorites of his. These tunes were popularized by this record as well. Sean Maguire's father had a different and very nice reel he called the Gatehouse Maid as well. 	Drowsy Maggie, Toss the Feathers - Paddy Killoran Fiddle solo, unknown - piano, Decca 12138. Drowsy Maggie was a popular tune in the old days. A third part is sometimes played, which is occasionally credited to a modern musician, but which actually seems to be traditional - Dublin piper Seamus Ennis had it, for instance, and if anyone stuck to the traditional it was him. 	Dwyer's Favorite, The Star of Munster - Paddy Killoran Fiddle solo, unknown - piano, Decca 12158. Tom Ennis recorded Dwyer's as Eileen Curran, in the key of A minor; this recording is also on this site. Playing in A requires going up to high C, not impossible on the fiddle but tricky, so fiddle settings are in G minor instead, such as the one in O'Neill's, under the title the Sailor's Return. The label for this record actually listed the second tune as the "Star of Monster." Like the first tune it is more commonly heard in A minor... 	Leitrim Jig, Guertin Boys (Rambling Pitchfork) - Paddy Killoran Fiddle solo, Jim McGinn - piano, Decca 12095. The first is a nice punchy jig, a bit like a Clare tune called Old Tipperary. The second is the familiar Rambling Pitchfork, which Paddy renamed for this disc after a small town in south Sligo. Coleman also recorded this setting, which has the occasional substitution of the fiddle's low A for the expected note an octave higher, making for a neat variation. 	Paddy on the Turnpike, Collier's - Paddy Killoran Fiddle solo, Jim McGinn - piano, Decca 12103. Paddy on the Turnpike was also recorded by Coleman and Morrison. Pipers usually call this tune the Bunch of Keys, often dispensing with the flat notes in the melody.
