âDonât Cage Dissentâ Weekly Column by Amy Goodman The bulwark against tyranny is dissent. Open opposition, the right to challenge those in power, is a mainstay of any healthy democracy. The Democratic and Republican conventions will test the commitment of the two dominant U.S. political parties to the cherished tradition of dissent. Things are not looking good.

âOpen the Debatesâ Weekly Column by Amy Goodman. The reviews are in, and the latest U.S. presidential debate, the âtown hallâ from Nashville, Tenn., was a snore. One problem is that in a debate it is important for the debaters to actually disagree. Yet Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain substantively agree on many issues. That is one major reason that the debates should be open, and that major third-party or independent candidates should be included.

[movingimage]How citizen journalism is changing campaign coverage - JD Lasica
At the MIT Media Lab on June 13, 2008, I interviewed NYU professor and PressThink blogger Jay Rosen about two big ways in which his Off the Bus citizen journalism project has impacted the 2008 election so far: the "bitter" remarks by Barack Obama and the "scumbag" reference to a Vanity Fair reporter by Bill Clinton. Rosen discusses what really happened in this 10-minute interview, and how the rules of political coverage have changed.

[audio]2008 Election Night Hoax
Brother Diamond analyzes mainstream media clips from the 2008 Election Coverage and reveals how the media just arbitrarily declares which states went to which candidate only minutes after the polls have closed and with only a small percentage of the votes being counted. It is also revealed that a private research and polling firm determines the winner of a state based on exit polls and they simply feed the results to the media network heads.

[audio]The Snark-Gap Transmission, Show #0010 - September 8, 2008 - Steve Shives
Not only is this, our tenth installment actually 30 minutes long (give or take about forty seconds), it's also packed with the sort of eclectic, random crap that only we could possibly care about. First, there's McAsherson's new friend, the weird old drunk guy from down the street. Then, there's our fondness for anything with a British accent. And finally, there is our merciless, mean-spirited and so very, very well deserved shellacking of Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin...

Do you believe the reverse speech phenomenon is for real? I submit to you the following audio clip, derived from an excerpt of a New York Times Faith Interview with Senator Hillary Clinton and NYT Reporter Michael Luo. Now, depending upon one's own opinion on the backwards speech concept, this may or may not be of interest to you. Senator Clinton seems to say two phrases in this sentence when it is reversed: "...You know, predilection to,you know, look at things from a faith-based center,but..." It...

With their fourteenth show, Steve and McAsherson continue to count down to Smithburg Library's second annual Monster Movie Night. Okay, it is time again for individuals to start campaigning for the 2008 presidential election. Considering that some may not like our current contenders, I (Darrell Wright)would also like to throw my name into the hat for President of the United States of America. Not really, but it made a good video idea. This is basically me and my campaign promises (like I really have any). Created similar to the Daily show or the Colbert report, this video makes fun of our current administration, our curren...
